Next to the Sundance Film Festival, The Toronto Film Festival has become runner up to importance on all things indie horror. Today we learned that Brightlight Pictures' They Wait was officially accepted (first picture inside). Written by Carl Bessai and Doug Taylor, with the story by Trevor Markwart, They Wait is directed by Ernie Barbarash (Cube Zero, Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming). A supernatural thriller starring Jaime King (Sin City, Pearl Harbor), They Wait is inspired by true events and tells the terrifying tale of one family’s life-threatening encounter with angry spirits during Hungry Ghost Month, a festival still celebrated in Taiwan but which has virtually disappeared from mainland China. Terry Chen (Almost Famous, Snakes on a Plane, I, Robot), Cheng Pei Pei (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss) also star. Watch for updates as soon as we get them.

I'm been a fan of this site for a long time, and think it's cool to see one of the projects I created mentioned on it. However, the writing credit on the film is still in Writers Guild arbitration. The other two people mentioned in this piece may not receive any credit at all -- it's unknown as of this date ( July 21/07 ). Maybe they will legitimately -- if so, a-okay by me. Unfortunately, I notice this morning that Brightlight Pictures has done a George Bush and have deemed themselves The Decider. As a result, they have, apparently, "decided" the credits for the film I created as an original spec and put that up all over the internet. George Bush is not The Decider. Brightlight Pictures is not The Decider. My Writers Guild contract is "the decider" and the anonymous arbitrators are going to decide. This is not 1930's Hollywood where producers can give their girlfriends a writing credit on a film. The guys at Brightlight are too used to working with Uwe Boll, it seems. What a terrible thing to work up to on a Saturday morning. More bullsh*t. Trevor Markwart
