If anyone can ignite a fire under Fox Atomic's ass it's Danny Boyle, who's been teasing that he'd return to his 28 Days Later franchise with 28 Months Later, now that he has a clean slate. Inside you'll find some excerpts from an interview with MTV where he talks about doing second-unit on 28 Weeks Later and finishing up his second project, Sunshine, which is in theaters July 20.
Portions of an interview with Danny Boyle from MTV:
MTV: But there must be some studio enthusiasm for another "28 Days" sequel — "28 Years Later," maybe?
Boyle: There is an idea for the next one, something which would move [the story] on. I've got to think about it, whether it's right or not.
MTV: Would you actually go back and direct it this time?
Boyle: Well, I didn't want to do the second one, because I was involved in "Sunshine." But I went out and I helped them [with "28 Weeks Later"]. I did some second-unit shooting on it. And I really enjoyed it, actually. There's something about doing something trashy that's great. Where basically you just come in the door and you just kill them. That was rather refreshing.
thought you already reported on this...hmm. well if not, i read it somewhere else a long time ago.
it's a successful franchise, SOMEONE's gonna make another one sometime
I'd love a third one as long as they get rid of the overused thumbs in the eyes and actually have somewhere for the story to go. I don't want a clone of one or two.
I havent seen the 2nd movie, but danny boyle directing a 3rd installment would be awesome, keep it a trilogy or quadrilogy,it dont need to be ran into the ground....like"28,46576860000000 years later" or some crazy **** like that,am i right?
I feel like shite...i haven't even seen WEEKS yet...one of the pratfalls of living in a small town. BUT hey, we're making a killer feature here! Small towns are good for something after all, eh.
If Danny boy comes back and directs the third one maybe it will make amends for the abysmal storyline and directing of the second one. The first one directed by Danny was AND IS the best in the series so far. If he comes back I look forward to it.
I mostly favor the title "28 Weeks After" - since 28 Months seems like a long time between events. So - if he does a 28 Months Later, how about a "28 Days After" after that? He could keep this franchise going for years...
There is a ton of material available for so-called "Zombie" movies - I have heard that Danny Boyle isn't a "fan" of the term "zombie" since his antagonists are infected by the Rage Virus. Who cares? The flu is the flu, whether it's the bird flu or the swine flu or the dog flu...Zombie is the symptom, not the "cause". And who really cares what the cause of it is anyway. Not relevant.
As for the plot or story itself - no real matter as long as it has two vital ingredients - archetypal story elements and several major "shock-points" - those points when you see many people in the cinema jump out of their seats in fright or shock.
Personally? I want to see 28 Years Later, when the survivors have developed "antiseptic robots" who are sent into an infected zone to clean up the mess created by the zombies. Would zombies attack the robots? Would you have a War between Robots and Zombies?
Anybody know anything more about whether of not fox is going through with this? If it does happen I hope its more like 28 days later than 28 weeks later. Boyle is great he does his own thing rather than trying just trying to please the masses with yet another same-old same-old cliche movie.
