I guess the studios decided that Americans don't buy DVDs the week of the Fourth of July since this week's Horror In Your House is extremely disappointing. One of the only films of note is Jason Christensen's indie film With You, which B-D reporter Elaine Lamkin loved. Read on to see what else hits retailers tomorrow.

Day of the Ax: Brain Damage

On May 8th 1984, twelve-year-old J.R. Sorg murdered his mother with an ax. For eight years, the boy remained at the Saint Catheriane Mental State Hospital. In 1992, he escaped, killing several innocent people and raping several women in the process. The state police and National Guard were all called in to hunt down the escaped convict. After six months the manhunt was called off. Nothing was ever found. The media had a field day with the events and dubbed it "Day of the Ax". During the past 3 years, over and over again, reports of bizarre and grisly ax murders have persisted all across the state. The "Day of the Ax" may be upon them again.

Dead Man’s Hand – Casino of the Dammed: Wizard Entertainment

After inheriting a casino from his dead uncle, Matthew Dragna, his girl friend J.J and a group of friends take a road trip to the outskirts of Las Vegas, where they find the run-down Mysteria Casino. But the trip takes a frightening turn when the kids discover that the casino is haunted by the ghosts of Vegas mobsters Roy The Word Donahue his goon Gil Wachetta looking to settle an old score.

Genre faves Michael Berryman and Sid Haig get top billing as the pair of ghouls who terrorize Matt and J.J in this flick from horror kingpin Charles Band.

Dead Teenagers: Brain Damage (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

On a dark autumn eve, a college student finds a mysterious book in his campus library. Within its pages, he finds four gruesome tales of ghosts, werewolves, vampires and the unknown. In the tradition of "Creepshow" and "Tales from the Darkside", "Dead Teenagers" will keep viewers shivering with fear.

Micro-budget filmmaker Chris LaMartina brings his own brand of anthology series to retail shelves this week. It get’s my pick of the week because; with the exception of the Stephen King films’ this is the only one I’ve actually seen. And, it’s pretty good too.

Drive-In Horror Series (SAVAGE SPIRIT, THEY FEED): Westlake Entertainemnt

SAVAGE SPIRIT - A young couple's new house seems like the perfect setting for a poolside birthday party. Unbeknownst to them, a savage spirit haunts the grounds with an immense distaste for unwanted houseguests. THEY FEED Six friends journey into the mountains in search of a thirty year old plane crash. In a horrifying turn of events, they soon find themselves the prey of flesh-eating creatures that relentlessly pursue them through the wilderness.

Meanwhile, the Ghoulies escape through an open porthole, creating madness and mayhem on the streets of L.A. $6.99 a copy…you know you want to own this!

Granny: Brain Damage Film

That right there, is the best sentence I never wrote! Go Brain Damage!

Stephen King DVD Collectors Set: (CARRIE, THE DARK HALF, MISERY, NEEDFUL THINGS): MGM/Fox

Four King films get packaged together from the old MGM vaults. Id you didn’t get ‘em already, here’s your chance.

The Tomb: York

Two thousand years ago a High Priest, defying the orders of the King, prepares the sacrifice that will resurrect an evil goddess from the tenebrous beyond. The beheading of seven virgins will precede her resurrection, but the sacrifice is interrupted and the priest is mortally wounded. Though not dead, he is to remain sealed in his sarcophagus until the arrival one day of those destined to liberate him.Two thousand years later, a group of university students on an archeological expedition begin to mysteriously die one by one via a series of mysterious accidents. Will the blood of the young victims complete what has been interrupted, or can man overthrow the evil god before it’s too late?

This “Tomb” is not to be confused with the Lionsgate film from Ulli Lommel that was released a few weeks back. This one might actually have something to do with a “Tomb”!

This double feature promises to recreate the experience of the Grindhouse theaters with a whole new interactive DVD experience. Included are BLACK CANDLES - Carol and her boyfriend Paul travel to England after the unexpected death of her brother. Once there she finds out her sister-in-law is involved in a satanic cult, and finds out that Paul is being drawn into the cult. EVIL EYE - Peter Crane is having nightmares about murdering someone.

“Recreates the experience” ‘eh…better bring a hooded coat and some hand sanitizer!

Welcome to the Grindhouse: THE TEACHER and PICK-UP: Deimos/BCI Eclipse

The Teacher starring Angel Tompkins and Jay North - an explosively tense story about a beautiful provocative 28-year-old high school teacher whose seduction of one particular student proves fatal; and Pick-Up, an off-beat story about 2 young women whose lives are forever changed when they hitchhike a ride in a mobile home, starring Jill Senter and Alan Long.

…you’re really gonna need that sanitizer after this one.

"...extremely disappointing"??? This week looks awesome, what are YOU talkin' about?? The first two releases of "Welcome To The Grindhouse", a similar "Drive-In Horror Series" release, a new horror anthology film, and Ghoulies 4! That's a whopping 5 dvds I have to buy this week. Plus, "With You" sounds pretty good as well. We need to count our lucky stars that horror dvds are even still coming out this rapidly. As soon as Bush is out of office, we can kiss the cool horror movies goodbye... -HorrorFan82
