In the midst of announcing a new thriller entitled Transit, it was revealed that Lionsgate is working on a remake to the classic 1990 Tim Robbin's pic Jacob's Ladder, which follows a traumatized Vietnam war veteran finds out that his post-war life isn't what he believes it to be when he's attacked by horned creatures in the subway and his dead son comes to visit him. Thousand Words has nabbed "Transit," a spec thriller by Michael Gilvary about a family road trip gone horribly awry, according to Variety.
Palmer West and Jonah Smith, who last produced the untitled Larry Charles' religion project with Bill Maher, will produce with Alison Rosenzweig.
In "Transit," a family driving through the desert is stalked by criminals who stashed stolen money in the family's car. The script will go out to directors shortly.
Besides the Charles/Maher project, currently in post-production, West and Smith produced Chris Gorak's "Right at Your Door," which Lionsgate is releasing Aug. 24. The duo also produced "A Scanner Darkly" and "Requiem for a Dream."
Gilvary recently did a rewrite of Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous With Rama" for Morgan Freeman's Revelations Entertainment. Whitewater Films will begin shooting his coming-of-ager "Greta" in the fall.
Rosenzweig has several projects in the works, including "Darksiders" at New Line, "Sanctuary" at Sobini/Lionsgate and a remake of "Jacob's Ladder."
That movie's like a Satanists' stag film. I hope Rosenzweig has experience being stabbed in the eyes, because if he touches Jacob's Ladder it'll happen... Many times over.
