Anchor Bay's 'Hatchet' Scores An R-rating!

Today the MPAA officially gave Adam Green's Hatchet (review) an "R" rating, thus eliminating any rumors or speculation that the original "NC-17" rating would effect the upcoming national theatrical run, according to Anchor Bay and the Hatchet Army MySpace. The "R" rating is for "extreme gory bloody horror violence, sexual conduct, nudity and language". After a two month long process involving an appeal and multiple submissions to the ratings board, the film is finally in it's home stretch. Read on for word from writer-director Adam Green.

From the Hatchet Army:

From writer/director Adam Green: "A big THANKS to everyone for their continued support and enthusiasm. Mainstream Hollywood claims that the fans will only support remakes and PG-13 horror at the box office these days. I hope that on September 7th we prove them wrong."

HATCHET will open in theaters across America on September 7th. To make sure that the film is playing where YOU want it, visit the fan-run HATCHET ARMY page (www.myspace.com/hatchetarmy) and start making some noise today!

When a motley crew of tourists on a Haunted Swamp Tour wind up stranded, their night of comedic spooks quickly roller-coasters into a horrific nightmare as they struggle to escape the swamp alive…and with all of their pieces. A spectacular throwback to 80’s horror and the film that’s been bringing audiences to their feet at film festival’s worldwide, HATCHET is filled with laughs, scares, and over-the-top death sequences you’ll have to see to believe.

I think the hype for this movie is a little too high. But I'll see it.

"After a two month long process involving an appeal and multiple submissions to the ratings board, the film is finally in it's home stretch." This sentence is a little vague. Does that mean something was cut out after multiple submissions? Is the director's cut DVD inevitable?

This is great news. I saw this film at the London frightfest a year ago and man is it good. I heard that he only had to cut out a few frames and that it doesn't effect the film that much at all... This film deserves to be supported and I think real horror fans should definately watch this film and tell all their friends, and family to see this so that the film can be a success and not flop like Hostel 2 did. Do you really want to see more movies like The Grudge 3? To stop this remake/pg13 trend support this film and Hollywood will listen and make more flms like this one. Victor Crowley is just as scary as Freddy once was in the 80's... trust me.
