TIFF '08: First Batch of Festival Reviews
Posted: September 6, 2008 @ 1:22pm

There's still an entire week left of this year's Toronto International Film Festival, and while there are dozens of reviews to be written, we've got an early start. First, we've finally posted our official review of Franck Vestiel's sci-fi horror film Eden Log, which will be released here in the States next year by Magnet Releasing. In addition to our review for Pascal Laugier's French horror pic Martyrs, the boys over at Twitch Film have posted another raving review for the film that's guaranteed to be the talk of Midnight Madness. Also added over at Twitch Film is a mixed/negative review of Fabrice Du Welz's Vinyan (review here) and a positive review of AJ Annila‘s Finnish "J-horror" pic Sauna (review here), which was earlier blasted over at AICN. Click the links above for all of the reviews and watch for tons more over the next week.

'My Bloody Valentine' in Mind-Blowing 3-D?
Posted: September 6, 2008 @ 2:56am

Ever since Lionsgate announced that their remake of My Bloody Valentine would be in 3-D I have been nothing but skeptical. But since then, I have heard loads of buzz from people who have seen dailies and 3-D tests who have all said that it looks tremendous. In fact, the new 3-D adds depth instead of just popping out at the audience, which I'm quite interested in seeing. Today a new interview with star Jamie King was posted where she talks about how Lionsgate will bring us INTO the remake, which was helmed by Patrick Lussier. ...Read More

The first of Magnet Releasing's "Six-Shooter Series" is Tomas Alfredson's Let the Right One In (review), which will be arriving in New York and Los Angeles theaters on October 24th. Today we were provided with the official poster for the film, which can be found inside. In the pic, a fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy’s wish for a friend seems to comes true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him. But Eli’s arrival coincides with a series of gruesome deaths and attacks. Though Oskar realizes that she's a vampire, his friendship with her is stronger than his fear... Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a disturbing, darkly atmospheric, yet unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence. ...Read More

EXCLUSIVE Chucky Gets Re-Designed, Big Role For Dourif
Posted: September 4, 2008 @ 4:51pm

One franchise that appears to have been drilled in the ground is CHILD'S PLAY, which last saw Chucky on the big screen back in 2004 with the release of SEED OF CHUCKY. Nearly four years later, creator Don Mancini is hard at work penning the remake for the film (that he'll also direct), which kicked off back in 1988 with a killer who transfers his soul into the body of a Good Guy doll. We've broke a whole bunch of stories here on B-D, and today we had the chance to have a few more questions answered... like what will change in the remake, including Chucky's design. A Brief 'Ghostbusters 3' Update From Dan Ackroyd
Posted: September 4, 2008 @ 4:25pm

The long gestured GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is quickly becoming one of the most aggravating projects to follow on the Hollywood block. With franchises seemingly being the only real force in Tinseltown, it's shocking to me that the third film isn't already in production, or at least in heated talks. Rumors hit the web this summer at Comic Con - and then were squashed - that Apatow and Rogen would be joining the project, and there have still been rumblings about this HELLBENT CGI direct-to-disc release, but nothing has ever been officially announced. Today a blurb from "real" Ghostbuster Dan Ackroyd hit the web that carries a small glimpse of hope. Read on, watch, then speculate with the best of us... ...Read More
