So much for a re-release of Dimension Films' Grindhouse (review) as it appears that Genius Entertainment and The Weinstein Co. will release Death Proof - Quentin Tarantino's segment - on DVD September 18th, according to Davis DVD. No word yet on Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, but this seems to confirm the rapid speculation that the theatrical double feature will be split up for the initial home video release. Death Proof is a rip-roaring slasher flick where the killer (Kurt Russell) pursues his victims with a car rather than a knife.
I don't know about you guys, but my thought on this is "FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!" If this is the tactic that the Weinsteins are taking with this property, we can expect the special "Grindhouse DVD set" about the same time the the Kill Bill film's get a descent release (i.e. FOR-FUCKING-EVER!!!)
Yeah, this is some bull shit, why not just release the fucking movies together??? One disc or two, I could give a shit which one. They just really need to be "TOGETHER" not seperate! Thats the whole theme for "GRINDHOUSE" anyways right??? Two movies for the price of one??? This fucking sucks!
Horrible idea!!! Money-gobbling aholes! I hope the sales FLOP and they figure out they handled this film all wrong. It was a film MADE FOR THE FANS as a double-feature! Why split it up? I thought the point with the whole theater thing was that people wouldn't sit through a 3-hour movie? But, on dvd, you can stop it half way! The "fans" can still watch the whole thing and then the "mainstream idiots" that rent it at their local Blockbuster can stop it at any point. Releasing them seperate will DESTROY sales! It's pissing off all the fans, the ONLY ones who were going to support it in the first place. I refuse to buy them seperate. It wasn't how the directors originally intented. Way to go Dimension for f'ing up ANOTHER good horror film! (Hellrasier 4 or Halloween 6 ring a bell???)
I checked out last week on Fangoria's website on their dvd list page that Death Proof and Planet Terror will be coming out separately in Sept. So far no official date but I hope the fake trailers will be included in the bonus features(two in DP and two in PT).
I ain't buying one without the other. Utter Bullshit! But I will buy "Machete" when it comes out. Danny Trejo kicks ass.
