Bloody-Disgusting has learned that Dee Wallace will join Vincent Pastore, Judith O'Dea, Felissa Rose, Lynn Lowry, John Fallon, Ellen Sandweiss and Edwin Neal in Dante Tomaselli's The Ocean. Inside you'll find word from Tomaselli regarding this major casting news, watch for more details as they come in. Dee Wallace has starred in such classics as The Howling, Cujo, The Frighteners, The Lost, The Hills Have Eyes, Abominable and will be in Rob Zombie's Halloween this summer.
"Dee Wallace is set to star in The Ocean. I'm so pleased; she'll bring so much emotional depth to the part,, Dante tells Bloody-Disgusting.com. "Dee's an outstanding actress whose worked with the best directors and starred in many classic movies. Some of my favorites are The Howling, Cujo and The Hills Have Eyes. Dee comes from 'old-school' horror, which I love."
He also updates us on the financing for the film, which looks to be locked, as long as when he plans on shooting "Kindred Media Group is financing the 1.8 million film and we're shooting August in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico," he continues, "Lots of atmospheric caves, beaches, an amusement park, a gothic lighthouse on jagged cliffs overlooking the crashing surf... Cabo Rojo means 'Red Cape' in Spanish."
Tomaselli also talked ot us a bit about the 'supposed' delay of the film, which isn't quite true, "It might seem like this movie has been long delayed, but it really hasn't. True, I was planning on shooting it last year but many independent films take much longer and never happen. I've made three features and this fourth is coming up. There's always a period of torture before the making of an independent film. Always. I'm used to this. I keep my eye on the prize and they always happen. The planets will finally be aligned this August."
Something Dante has never really done is go all-out on the gore... some things do change, "I've dabbled in gore, here and there on all my films, but this will be my bloodiest, most disturbingly graphic film. It fits the mood of the world...violent! The Ocean is a zombie splatter movie, an apocalyptic chiller, in some ways it has the feel of Lucio Fulci's THE BEYOND and maybe John Carpenter's THE FOG, although it's very different, I really shouldn't compare it to anything. I know I want it to be a roller-coaster, scary and exciting. There's a mysterious Ebola-like virus spreading along the coast of Puerto Rico...and a troubled medium (Dee Wallace) haunted by visions of eternal damnation."
this sounds really bad-ass. i hope they can pull it off.
