You have to impressed with Sam Raimi - while he's been busy building the biggest franchise in the freakin' world next to Star Wars for Sony with Spider-Man he's also been making a name for his company, Ghost House Pictures. Now working with big-time producer Roy Lee and Vertigo Entertainment, together they've brought more lucrative horror to the big screen than almost any other studio... and they're just getting started. They are now teaming to make horror project Incident at Sans Asylum and signed Spanish helmer Daniel Calparsoro to direct. Read on for the skinny.
Ghost House Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are teaming to make horror project "Incident at Sans Asylum" and signed Spanish helmer Daniel Calparsoro to direct, according to Variety.
Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce alongside Drew Crevello ("The Grudge 2"). Ghost House's Rob Tapert, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will exec produce with Vertigo's Sonny Mahli; Kelli Konop and Nicole Brown will co-produce.
Mandate Pictures is handling sales on the film as part of its Cannes slate. Production is scheduled to start in late summer.
S. Craig Zahler ("The Brigands of Rattleborge") penned the script, which follows aspiring musicians working as cooks for the criminally insane who find themselves locked in the asylum when a major thunderstorm hits.
Calparsoro's credits include Spanish films "Ausentes" and "Guerreros," and he's currently in development on another project with Vertigo. Zahler has several projects in development at Warner Bros. and DreamWorks.
"Incident" marks the third collaboration between Ghost House and Vertigo after the two "Grudge" pics. Ghost House's next movie is "30 Days of Night," to be released by Sony this fall, while Vertigo's upcoming films include a remake of "The Eye" starring Jessica Alba and "Addicted," starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
