I see more blood in the future for Twisted Pictures, the boys behind the Saw franchise, as they've just announced a pretty impressive deal. Rob Lieberman -the man behind one of the scariest movies ever made, Fire in the Sky - is set to direct Tortured, a psychological revenge thriller scripted by Marek Posival. Posival was one of the names in the running to pen the screenplay for Saw IV. Read on for details on this film and cross your fingers that it's a f-cking freaky as those abduction scenes in Fire in the Sky.
Rob Lieberman is set to direct "Tortured," a psychological revenge thriller scripted by Marek Posival. Twisted Pictures partners Mark Burg and Oren Koules will finance the film and produce with Carl Mazzocone, according to Variety.
Shooting begins in Toronto in June, after Twisted wraps "Saw IV," which just began production. Much of the same crew will be used, and after "Tortured," they will move on to "Repo! The Genetic Opera," a rock musical to be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who's now helming his third "Saw" film.
In "Tortured," an upper-middle-class couple's life is destroyed when a pedophile kidnaps and kills their only child. Obsessed with revenge, the couple seizes an opportunity to kidnap the killer.
Twisted is a branch of Burg and Koules' personal management company, Evolution Entertainment, and Lieberman is a client. Lieberman has directed 18 hourlong TV pilots, including those for "The Dead Zone" and "Strong Medicine."
Burg and Koules, who self-finance their "Saw" films and release them through Lionsgate, aren't in a rush to secure a distributor for "Tortured."
"We prefer to engage distributors when we're in production, because by then, we have a script we like and we're making the movie we want to make," said Koules.
