Mandalay Pictures head Cathy Schulman had an update on Platinum Dunes' The Birds, which will be released by Universal Pictures, “We think we have a very contemporary take,” Schulman tells Variety. “In the original, the birds just showed up, and it was kind of like, why are the birds here? This time, there’s a reason why they’re here and (people) have had something to do with it. There’s an environmental slant to what could create nature fighting back.” It was also revealed that production is scheduled to begin in early fall. Naomi Watts is rumored to be producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller's top choice for the lead.
Why does Platinum Dunes always want to explain every little friggen thing? No question seems to go unanswered with these guys. When are they going to realise that the best horror is the most simple?
One more masterpiece trashed. One of the things that made the original scary was the fact that you didn't know why the birds were there. Hitchcock even used that to create tension between characters in the diner scene! This movie's going to as good as "The Birds II: Land's End". I saw it. It sucked.
