Tarantino - Rodriguez - Ghostbusters - Remake??!!

How long have you all been waiting for a third entry in the Ghostbusters franchise? I am a huge fan of the first film and grew up on both cartoons (Ghost Busters and The Real Ghostbusters), so the news that a remake- errr re-envisioning is happening has me going ape sh-t! The news we've scored this past week is so insane that it's going to blow your friggin' mind. Read on for details on Ghostbusters, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez!

You wanted it, you got it, the return of the GHOSTBUSTERS!

Bloody-Disgusting learned this week that Robert Rodriguez is set to produce a remake of the '84 classic horror/comedy GHOSTBUSTERS, with Quentin Tarantino attached to write and direct.

"We, uh, aren't really looking to necessarily 'reinvent' the franchise, it's more of an actual sequel," Tarantino tells B-D in regards to the story, "the problem is we can't convince Bill Murray to return!"

After talking with the new producers we discovered that Robert Rodriguez was so impressed with Freddy Rodriguez in GRINDHOUSE, that they’ve already signed him as one of the new Ghostbuster students, “Besides, we like his last name,” Rodriguez jokes. But here’s what some fans might get pissed at, apparently Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are in talks to replace Murray as the Ghostbuster Dr. Peter Venkman.

So what exactly is the film then? A remake or a sequel? Rodriguez explains, "Rob Zombie really inspired us with what he is doing with HALLOWEEN... he has shown you can recreate a franchise with the same elements but make it better. With a massive budget of $250 million, GHOSTBUSTERS is going to be the most epic theater experience of your life!"

Even crazier, they've already announced some cast members who have agreed "verbally" to join the project, "The plot will be the old Ghostbusters training the new ones. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis were all over the idea -- as for Ernie Hudson... well, we just found him at a local comic convention and wrote him a check right then and there," one of the producers tells us.

A remix of the original GHOSTBUSTERS song is being done Justin (Sexy Back) Timberlake, with back up vocals by Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy fame.

The film will also be presented in "uber super-slimy 3-D technology" with Slimer narrating the film, so we're told. Louis Tully's character (once played by Rick Moranis) has had laser eye surgery and has become quite the a ladies man. As for Dana Barrett (once played by Sigourney Weaver), she is now legally married to a woman (!)

Lastly (and probably the most shocking news of all), it was revealed that Silmer has mutated and is now purple, "we had to do it to avoid rights issues," we're told by ghost expert and producer Viladamier Quintell, "besides, the cost of making things green in post-production have gone up, purple will save us about five million. And seriously... try doing 'green' on a green-screen!"

When it was all said and done, we couldn't believe it... and neither should you. Why? Because today's April 1st - April Fool's Day!
