Tartan Films has bought U.S. rights to the provocatively titled The Slit-Mouthed Woman, according to Variety. Japanese chiller about a hideously deformed woman who is accused of a gruesome killing spree is based on a well-known folk legend. The pic is helmed by Koji Shiraishi and stars Eriko Sato, Haruhiko Katou, Chiharu Kawai, Rie Kuwana, Kazuyuki Matsuzawa, Miki Mizuno and Saaya Irie. It was produced by Takafumi Ohashi, Kayako Hanamura, Saori Yabe and Hirokazu Kokago through Tornado Film. Sales deal was handled by Twins Co. The film had a 40-print theatrical release in Japan. Tartan says it plans to put out the movie directly to video in July in a release that is almost day-and-date with the Japanese DVD bow.
