Whether the After Dark Horrorfest was a success or not doesn't matter as next November the festival will make it's second coming. No films have been announced yet, but we suspect that the following announcement might be one of them. It was announced from Berlin today that AfterDark Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Jorg Ihle's horror/action film The Tribe. AfterDark Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Jorg Ihle's horror/action film "The Tribe," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

AfterDark partner Courtney Solomon and executive vp acquisitions and creative affairs Stephanie Caleb made a pre-emptive offer on the film after its promotional trailer was shown at the Berlin International Film Festival and closed the deal amid bids from several U.S. distributors during Presidents Day weekend. The project also was sold to ProSieben and Splendid Film for Germany, Quality for Mexico and Polar Star for Latin America.

The film, co-written by Ihle and producer Mo Ramchandani, follows a group of twentysomethings stranded on a deserted island who encounter humanoid creatures and must fight for their survival. It was shot on location in Costa Rica and Los Angeles.

Producer-distributor AfterDark, which launched a wide release of Solomon's "An American Haunting" last year and will distribute "The Abandoned" this weekend through its partnership with Lionsgate, plans a wide theatrical release of "Tribe" with a low-eight-figure P&A commitment. Upcoming AfterDark releases with Lionsgate include "Skinwalkers," "Captivity" and "The Tripper." Solomon heads AfterDark with Hong Kong-based real estate financier Allan Zeman.

"Tribe" stars Jewel Staite ("Serenity"), Justin Baldoni ("Everwood"), Kellan Lutz ("Accepted"), Nikki Griffin ("The Dukes of Hazzard") and Marc Bacher. It was executive produced by Joel Soisson ("Pulse") and Jo Bamford. Avatar Entertainment Group financed the project. International sales are being handled by Nicolas Chartier's Voltage Pictures in a deal brokered with Voltage vp sales and acquisitions Nadine de Barros.

Ihle and Ramchandani are partners in Avatar Entertainment Group and have co-written several screenplays in development, including the child slavery drama "Iqbal," which Ramchandani is producing with Mark Gordon. Avatar and Ramchandani produced the feature "Two Days," starring Paul Rudd.

Shaun Redick of the Collective and Darin Frank of Eisner & Frank brokered the sale of the film on behalf of the filmmakers, and attorney Greg Bernstein negotiated on behalf of AfterDark.
