Danning and Zombie Pay Their Respects to Myers!

I just woke up and found an AMAZING image stuffed in my inbox - the pic is of star Sybil Danning and writer/director Rob Zombie chilling by Judith Myers' tombstone on the set of Dimension Film's Halloween remake! After being committed for 17 years, Michael Myers, now a grown man and still very dangerous, is mistakenly released from the mental institution (where he was committed as a 10 year old) and he immediately returns to Haddonfield, where he wants to find his baby sister, Laurie. Anyone who crosses his path is in mortal danger.

Sorry guys, should have been here earlier! The image was pulled...

I'm anxious to check it out when it comes out this year. It may be a remake but it least Rob has his own take on it.

I purposefully avoided polluting these boards with my malfeasence on the copcar thread just so everyone could have a little Sauron-Free break. I'm not gonna get hard about the pros and cons of a car and a stone as any indication about the state of this thing. What I am gonna throw out unholy flame about is when dumba#s posters (and this does not refer to anyone underneath me in this update thread but does refer to something I read 2 days ago) pontificate about how this is an amazing film because Rob Zombie is behind the helm. Johnny me and you are in agreement that the fate of this thing really isn't gonna coalesce for a couple of months. And you are indeed correct from your viewpoint that nothing can really be judged until the final product is out. HOWEVER as you take that point, there are others who are arguing that this is automatically gonna be a masterpiece SIMPLY because of the fact that ROB is directing. Whenever I see some idiotic thought process expounding about how this is the year of Halloween because Rob is gonna ressurect this franchise, I wanna puke. While Johnny and I disagree about the ultimate fate of this endeavour, we have peace because we each realized that there have to be supportive arguements not blind fanboy love of all things ROB. ROB gets no blank check because he's Rob. Evidance is everywhere on these boards because there are many fanatics nitpicking over the tiniest details (the car, the stone) What that should tell us and even ROB is that fans are looking at every tiny detail comparatively to the original and consequently are extremely concerned about the direction we see this going in and that he does not and will not get a free pass because he's ROB. ROB himself even said he was leary of doing this when initially approached because his gut instinct (which if he had half a brain he would've listened to) told him that the original was a masterpiece that should not have been touched (see ROB's first interview on the rarely updated official HalloweenMovies site). My whole, convoluted point on this is that for every coherent, supported arguement that is made, legions of blind ROB's friends keep telling us how absolutely lucky we should feel because ROB really is working hard on this. Work smarter; NOT harder (hard work is no indicator of quality or success).....nothing will be determined until we see more concrete footage and eventually the actual release. ROB gets no blank check.....

why the hell do people complain about such little things! we won't know what the final product will look like until it comes OUT! i support rob in his remake but i'm not saying that it's gonna be a masterpiece. i think he has a fresh idea and i think he'll make it work. who cares if it's NOTHING like the original, he doesn't want HIS HALLOWEEN to be EXACTLY like the original. He wanted to make it HIS WAY.

Both of you,(Sauron, Scott), have good points. I think I fall somewhere in the middle of both of your thoughts. I do not think that because RZ is directing, this will be a masterpiece. But we have to remember that if someone is a BIG fan of all things RZ, music, movies, that of course they will back up thier boy no matter what, and thats ok, it's someones opinion and thier right to feel good about it. I don't like Ben Affleck's acting and Limp Bizkit's awful music, but somebody does and will think I'm crazy (or worse), for saying so. In the end, we all have different tastes.

I really enjoyed robs other 2 movies and cant wait to see what he does to the halloween series. Im not the biggest remake fan but everyonce in a while they can make a really good interesting one.... Im hoping this will be one of them. GO ROB!!!!

Bottom line. I would rather see the story go in a new direction than see another awful sequel with Hip Hop artists and Dawson Creek actors. I'm not saying RZ's ideas will work, but I am willing to give it a shot. As I've said before, It's easy for me to NOT compare this film to Carpenter's because RZ is retelling the story from his perspective, NOT copying the original. It will stand as a separate film with similar characters. I'll still HAVE and LOVE the original regardless of this film.

Jonny, you don't need to reboot the entire series in order to take the story in a new direction: Just revamp things with 'Halloween (9): Subtitle' instead of p*ssing all over the original. IMO, remaking a movie sends out the message "the original doesn't work anymore, we had to fix things". Are we really saying 'Halloween' needed to be remade in order to make it work, or in order to kick-start the series? Besides, this "new direction" Zombie is heading in sounds like old hat. What's new about it, exactly? It sounds just like any number of "generic hulking serial killer with physical or mental hang-ups, seeking revenge" movies to me. And would you still be in favour of going in a "new direction" if Zombie *had* cast Dawson's Creek actors? It seems that your main criticism of the series (and your main defence of a remake) is the casting from the last movie, rather than the direction the storytelling went in.

MMO ... With all due respect, I have to disagree with you. "NO", I don't want to see Halloween 9. I don't think any remake pisses, as you say, on the legacy of the original, that's just my opinion. This remake does not say to me at all that the original didn't work, I don't understand your reason for saying so, but that's your right and your entitled to it. Also, I don't recognize ANY of the sequels other than Halloween 2. No offense to those who liked those films, but in MY opinion, it went downhill each sequel. I think the story became too Freddy and Jason to me, and I'm not big on the fantasy element in horror movies, again just MY opinion. Last, I don't care who's directing the remake, but as I said, I would rather see a different direction than another awful continuation of a series that is on life support. Michael Myers has not been scary in over 25 years. Will RZ achieve this, I don't know, but I'd rather roll the dice than see Halloween 9, starring P. Diddy, Usher and Jessica Simpson anyday. Agree to disagree.

Where I think my arguement is strongest would be simply this: "If ROB wanted to reboot or reimagine the Halloween franchise as a fanboy appointed director, make another sequel and zombify it. Yes I would be pissed and yes theer are others who sufficiantly denigrate ROB that would be pissed, but the end result is that he could do a 180 with the story. HOWEVER, by purposefully remaking the original and putting his name over it, he has put himself up against a higher level of standards that could've been avoided had he called the movie something else unrelated to the original or even the Halloween series." By saying this is Halloween, he specifically is taking the characters and storyline of our beloved original and tamperring with them. He CANNOT hide and say that there will be so much different perspective or material that this will be a new direction. If you call it Halloween, then it's Halloween. Therefore, he will forever be compared to the 1978 classic and every aspect of his vision is going to be comparatively criticized as such.....

Well said,Sauron. It's sad that some people would rather, either consciously or unknowingly, help a second rate musician/director live out his dream of becoming a cult leader like his hero Charles Manson and support anything the guy does.I mean really, the cards are on the table. What more does a rational, free thinking person with a modicum of common sense need to see/hear/read to know this movie is going to be a worthless and unnecessary bastardization of the original.

This is really big news here to hear that Sybil Danning is somewhat involved with Rob Zombie's "Halloween",for neither Sybil nor Rob had made any annoucements about that(or their sites nor Rob's "halloween" MySpace page),for I'm wondering if she's playing Nurse Marion Chambers(Doc Loomis' chain smoking sidekick/buddy)in this movie(if she really is actually in it).

Jonny, why do you keep suggesting that 'Halloween 9' would automatically go hand-in-hand with hip-hop stars, etc.? It's not a very convincing argument for why a remake, rather than a sequel, is the best way to go. As I say, Zombie could have easily directed a 'Halloween 9' without casting hip-hop stars, he could have used the cast he has for this remake, and a tweak of the script. All the series needed was a revamp - we've had them before. Ten years after the original, we had 'H4', which was essentially a remolding of the original storyline without having to go the way of a remake, and then ten years after that, we had 'H20', which was yet another retooling of the original story without it needing to be a blow-by-blow remake. And now, almost a decade after that, we get another revamp - except this time they've dumped everything that has gone before and are starting all over again with an 'exciting' (zzzz) new origin story. You say you don't want a 'Halloween 9': what do you think is going to happen when this remake rakes in lots of cash? Sequels. We're heading for sequelville anyway, so it might as well be sequels to the bona fide 'Halloween' rather than this generic-sounding Zombie crap.

I Am Kind Of Upset By The Casting Of Malcom McDowell As Dr. Sam Loomis. Not That I Have Anything Against Mr. McDowell, It's Just That I'd Prefer An Actor Like Anthony Hopkins, Donald Sutherland, Christopher Plummer, Ben Kingsley, Or Morgan Freeman. All Of These Actors Can Be Instense And Would Provide A Good Interpretation Of Dr. Loomis. If I Had To Pick Any Of The Above For Loomis, It'd Be Either Anthony Hopkins Or Morgan Freeman. Anthony Because Of His Excellent Work In The Hannibal Films In Which He Had Good Way Of Intruiging The Audience And Luring Us More And More Into The Story. I'd Have Morgan As Loomis Because His Manner Of Speaking And Acting, Much Like That Of Mr. Hopkins, Lures You More And More Into The Story. So, Basically I Just Want This Film To Be A Great Film For The Longtime Halloween Fans And People Who Have Yet To Have A Foray Into One Of, If Not, The Best Horror Series Out In Film.

MMO...Halloween 9 would be a disaster. I am assuming this, but need to look no further than the past sequels. I thought H20 with Jamie Lee Curtis returning was promising, but again was HIGHLY let down by the plot and storyline. I know my views are not popular, but I just don't want to see another commercial sequel to this series. I think RZ's version will atleast be edgy and different, and that's what I think this story needs. I'm not saying he will deliver, but atleast it will be a different take with the characters. That is ALOT more refreshing than a tired, dumb, ridiculous sequel that has been worn down. Sorry, but just my opinion.

Jonny, sequels are all about being "commercial". Without money-making sequels, there *is* no series. Do you think Zombie's remake isn't going to be "commercial" and all about making as much money as possible? That's what remakes are all about. They take an established, money-making name and ride all the way to the bank on the name-recognition alone. This movie will be hyped out of all proportion upon release simply because of the brand name. A few years down the line, you'll probably be back to square one, saying that you don't want another tired sequel to Zombie's "edgy" remake.
