Ready for the shocker? Dying to know who will be directing Lionsgate's Saw 4? The Hollywood Reporter confirmed reports early this morning that Darren Lynn Bousman will helm the fourth installment in the popular franchise, which features a killer by the name of Jigsaw who tortures his victims to help them appreciate the life they took for granted. Bousman previously directed Saw II and Saw III for Lionsgate and is also in pre-production on his third feature film, Repo! A Genetic Opera. Read on for the official news!
Darren Lynn Bousman is set to direct "Saw IV." The director, who helmed the last two installments in the horror franchise, "Saw II" and "Saw III," will begin production in Toronto April 16, Lionsgate and its production partner Twisted Pictures announced Monday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Also reuniting on the project is the "Saw" production team, with Twisted's Mark Burg and Oren Koules producing and Daniel Jason Heffner, James Wan, Leigh Whannell and Stacey Testro executive producing.
Executive producing for Lionsgate are president of acquisitions and co-productions Peter Block and senior vp acquisitions Jason Constantine. Key contributors to the first three films returning include editor Kevin Greutert, director of photography David Armstrong and production designer David Hackl.
"Having Darren behind the camera gives 'Saw IV' a real edge, so to speak," Block said. "He has led this franchise into boxoffice history while proving himself a modern master of psychological terror."
The film is slated for worldwide release on Oct. 26. The "Saw" series has thus far grossed more than $400 million worldwide.
"It's not often that a filmmaker is given the opportunity to follow a genuinely compelling character through two films, much less three," Bousman said. "So I'm very excited about picking up the reins on 'Saw IV,' and delving even deeper into the Jigsaw legend."
Following "Saw IV," Lionsgate, Twisted Pictures and Bousman will reunite for "Repo! The Genetic Opera," a horror opera Bousman will direct from an original story by co-composers and screenwriters Terrence Zdunich and Darren Smith.
Bad career move on Bousman's part. The guy needs to get out of the sequel slump. I honestly thought we should have given Hackl a shot. Oh well, atleast now it's not ALL newbies.
This is some great news, im really stoked for Saw IV. Never in my dreams would I have imagined Bousman would be back. But here the news is. Is Fango a good enough source thought. It could be B/S? But anyway, as long as Saw IV is coming out, I'm a happy camper, even if its the worst SAW movie I've ever seen, I'm still buying it on dvd and seeing it in theaters.
I totally understand how having Lionsgate back a dump truck full of money to your front door might be an enticement, but he needs to move on. Long-term vs. short-term.
I would have gone with the guy who directed "Naboer" (who was rumored to have met with LG about the project).
Hello,
I'm from Poland. Bousman returns to direct Saw IV? Is that true? I must know this, because I'm going to write article in Polish website. Please, tell me that is the true, thanks a lot,
cheers
This is the best news you could possibly hear as a Saw fan!! Although Saw 2 was the weakest of the franchise so far, it was still a great movie, and Saw 3 was incredible, and the most psychological mind-f*** of them all! Having one of the original guys directing, and the old writers as exec. producers is so exciting to hear! Saw 4 will be bad ass now. (Though Hackl would be second best choice)
I don't think the Saw IV idea's gonna turn out as another "Saw" movie. There's too many in the making, and they're making them too soon. But this is just a opinon from a Senior. I mean don't get me wrong, I admire the Saw series, but I think it should have it's toll; don't put them out too soon. Plan ahead. I mean honestly, how many Saw series are there going to be?
Not sure if you are all familiar with Repo but it will be KILLER. My guess is that DB signed onto Saw IV so that he can do REPO. Mark my words, it wil prove to be worth it.
you know i think saw 4 is gonna rock everyones world and i know for a fact that it's not the last one ever because i've heard that jigsaw (tobin bell) has already been signed for saw 6 but not for saw 5 i just have no idea how there gonna bring him back if anyone thinks they know then PLEASE TELL ME !!!!
