Unified Pictures is launching development of horror thriller Beneath the Shadows with Jeremy Alter directing and shooting expected to start in September in Los Angeles, according to Variety. "Beneath the Shadows," with a $3.5 million budget, follows four prisoners trying to escape an eerie penitentiary where the only safe place is the cell that confines them. Alter recently co-poroduced David Lynch's "Inland Empire." Alter made his directorial debut on Unified's recently completed noir thriller "the Perfect Sleep," starring Roselyn Sanchez. Unified also recently completed writer/director Michael A. Nickles' XII, a horror thriller -- about a small town jury who suddenly has to face the man they may have wrongly convicted five years. Pic stars Steven Brand, Mercedes McNab, Nick Searcy and Emily Hardy. "XII" was produced by Unified CEO Keith Kjarval and exec produced by Ben Ruffman.
