Today B-D reader OrangeMyers sent in some pictures of the Wallace house from Rob Zombie's Halloween, which is currently shooting in Pasadena, CA. In addition to the pictures he writes in, "I know some of you were worried about the size of Tyler Mane as Michael Myers, but I assure you that he looks really cool. The jumpsuit he wears is a little baggy so he just looks like a tall dude, kind of like the Jason from 'Freddy vs Jason'. I saw Mane shoot a scene as Myers from across the street and I have to say... in person, he's scary as all hell!" Read on for the pics and watch for more as it comes in. That house blows too

C'mon Bob, why does this house and the last house blow? Is it because you just hate RZ, you hate remake's, bring something to the table. Support your claim. If I felt like you, I still would not get any impression from the movie by viewing picture's of houses. The "Houses", are not any better or worse than the original, go watch it and then take a look again. Mr. D, once again thank you for the photo's. Nice little update as well on how Michael look's.

What I do have to say though is that the houses look very low-income, middle america compared to the original. Part of the terror from part 1 stems from the this-can-happen everywhere suburbia appeal. Annie, Lynda, and Laurie are three "everybody" type of characters that you really get to know, which makes their eventual deaths (Laurie excluded lest anyone try to say that I don't know what I'm talking about) really terrifying. Carpenter's cinematography reinforces this (obviously, purposefully) You don't root for Myers in the original, rather he is terrifying disturbance in the daily lives of characters that many of us can relate to. All of the sequels suffer from characters that are fed to Myers as cannon-fodder and many of them deserve it. In these cases you're rooting for Myers to exact some twisted form of justice to the dumba#s-of-the-moment. ROB appears to be headed in this direction as he appears to be writing Michael as a sympathetic, strangely misunderstood castoff of society. As far as I'm concerned this is one of the core problems with the thought process in this remake. In addition, the huge cast and expected buckets of blood will probably reinforce what I'm saying. The two houses we've seen thus far appear more in the vain of the middle sequels (shot in Salt Lake City) The direction of those specific movies was more in the vain of small, middle of nowhere midwest america as opposed to the suburbia of part 1. Again this IS probably going to be viewed as really trivial ut just trying to stir up onversation here.....and I didn't even have to curse out ROB this time to do it.

If thats low income, i'm homeless.

Let me rephrase it lest I offend anyone: think of it in terms of a suburban colonial versus white trash art deco Pasedena style (which probably sells for 350k anyway).....

I know , where the fuck do you guys live that you consider this "lower middle class" plz. Do liek the house though, hop the actual movie is good.

Thanks again, Mr. D. for the cool pictures. I usually stick to my own obeservations of things, however it appears that some may just be looking at every update posted and going out of their way to find the negative in it, simply because they want to hate this movie and see it fail. I can't figure out how looking at a picture of a house shot during a cloudy day can be labled a failure. I would think we should wait until it's shot on film with some cinematic flair and creepy tones, even a music score before we hate it. Again, it could be worse. Remember the "hey, let's go to the barn for a beer party!" scenes in the 4-5 movies. Haddonfeild was over run with beer swilling hillbillies in those movies. I don't remember seeing barns in the Carpenter classic. Again, I too was wholeheartedly against this movie, especially after seeing the "draft" script. Now I am leaning towards at least giving it a fair shot (I blame Jonny, LOL) with an eye on Zombie changing some of the crap we read on the fly. Inevitabley, we will all compare Zombie's movie to the classic, but he can't screw that one up. It's a stand alone classic, period. I will be the first on this forum to say "it sucked!" if it turns out that Zombie indeed turns Michael into a talking, crap mask wearing, sympathetic human, who blames trashy mom for his homicidal tendencies.

I could not have said it better P.W. Keeping and open mind, wait and see attitude has been my point all along. I love the original, and this movie good or bad will NEVER change that. This is a HUGE risk RZ is taking. But I don't think he's dumb enough to not realize this. That's what makes me think he could surprise us with his version. There will be no middle ground . It will be cool or a disaster. We all will see this movie, hater's included, or why would you be commenting on it. I would be alot more critical about the movie if RZ were doing a remake of Carpenter's version. But the fact that he's not and doing his own interpretation makes this easy for me.

Johnny, block your ears.....Before I go to World War Round 2 on this let me clarify, maybe, perhaps, a couple of things that were missed in my last post. I SAID THAT MY COMMENTS ON THE HOUSE WERE FRICKIN TRIVIAL. LLOOOOOKK IT'S RIGHT THERE IN PLAINTEXT. OH MY, yes I am not stupid enough to say that the damn house has any bearing either way on whether the movie sucks or not. So let's put this issue to bed right away, extend the olive branch, avert warfare, or whatever: "I Sauron, was not attempting to c@ckslam ROB (as I said in my initial AANNDD followup post on the subject. I did make that clear didn't I?????)" I was making friggin conversation on a boring news day AND YES 4-5 were hillbilly f5ckfests, which I believe was my point anyway. Hello!!!!! Anyway, in a more dulcet manner of conversation maybe some of you who think I'm a lone voice pickin on ROB should read the follow up on AICN concerning the initial review of the script, which by the way they're filming from as-we-speak, or did we forget that. I especially liked the part in paragraph 2 about "I also know that some people who have been telling Zombie how much they like the script to his face are singing a different tune behind his back...." read on

Thanks Jonny. Please bear in mind that I am not saying that I am for or against this movie, only that I am willing to hope and pray that Zombie changes what we all thought was a horrible script on the fly. I am willing to extend him a wait and see attitude or at least keep an open mind. Why? Because after seeing the trend in the last two hip hop vs. Michael crapfest, I just figure there is no way that Zombie could do worse. For that matter as a huge fan of the original, would stick to keeping the classic tones. Sauron, thanks for not going WW3 on me. I am not trying to be mean or nasty, just pointing out that like Jonny, I think things could always be worst and am willing to at least hope that we are all pleasantly suprised in the end. We all have our opinions and I certainly respect yours. You do make logical observations in your post. We shouldn't be too hasty and hating merely on internet fodder. Peace!

I must say, the house looks pretty cool. Low income?. Please. Everyone who thinks that looks low income/white trash must live in palaces that drip gold out of it's faucets. I really like this house. It's big and architectually interesting. It looks perfect for a movie like this.

Jonny
4:54pm, February 17, 2007

Sauron, I had no problem with your comment's on the house. You have the right to call it as you see it. It seems a few other's took exception to your calling it"low income", but I didn't think you were being disrespectful with how you said it. I don't always agree with your point's, but atleast you explain your thought's rather than "this suck's, because it just suck's" answer. That drives me nuts.

I know what you mean and believe me, I didn't/don't want to make a big deal out of this. YES, I am OVERLY negatiev about ROB for the reasons I outlined a couple of weeks ago concerning his overmarketed/overhped/overrated darkrebel image that he so carefully cultivates. That, combined with the fact that I never wanted the original to be touched by anyone, least of all by an untalented, uncredentialled wannabe (I'll stop now to keep this short.....) The thing is that we will see in the next couple of months whether the script stays the same or if some miracle is wrought. And yes, no one could conceiviably do a worse job than Miner and Rosenthal did on the last two, but to go back and purposefully call out the original, which, let's be fair ROB has done in his interviews with the "some things just didn't sit right with me (ie the Myers 'look; from 1)" you better be prepared to deliver if your name is going up on the marquee as the one who sought to reinvent a seminal, timeless materpiece.....

Did he really say he wasn't happy with Michael's look? The only thing I remember was him saying is that he wanted the overalls to be dirty, because it appeared Michael took them from the neatest mecahanic (or something like that. Please let me know if he is going to tinker some more. That would stink!

Sauron

He comments in that MTV interview about not liking the fact that Myers was just some random shape who appears and disappears frame-to-frame (I thought that's what makes Carpenter's original such a masterpiece, I must be delusional???????) Also he's mentioned some minor critiques of the original Loomis character as well as the overalls you mentioned. As I alluded to before AICN posted a rebuttal to Zombie concerning their initial script review. Apparently ROB got pissed at them for misunderstanding his creative genius (seems like this is par for the course for him) so the writers put up another response. Check out paragraph 2 like I said earlier about the rumors of discontent amongst some of "ROB's Friends." Just for the record, AICN is a pretty well-respected website concerning all film and their word gets around quick.....

Sauron, just a couple of things to disagree about. First, I think you should give this movie a chance before you condem it. You've been pretty harsh and the filming has just started. Second, I think Steve Miner did a great job in bringing back the original flavor of the first Halloween. Who knows how this movie will turn out, I as well as many other Halloween facts are rather nervous, however, lets see how it turns out before scorning everything associated with it.

Jonny
2:34pm, February 18, 2007

Bill, I feel the same way you do about atleast giving this thing a chance. But Sauron has the right to dis as he chooses. He's explained that he just can't stand RZ or anything he stand's for. I would disagree about any of the sequel's being up to par with the original. No disrespect to those who like those movies, but other than Halloween 2, it's gone way downhill. I choose to not recognize those films as part of the history. I had hopes when Jamie Lee Curtis was brought back for H20, but again, I was dissapointed. It had alot of holes and details unexplained. I know I'm in the minority, but I think a new direction and retelling of the story will atleast be fresh, good or bad.

Saw some of the filming - although not expert on movieamking or Halloween, what I saw looked very cool. Laurie and Meyers actors are doing great job. Watching some scenes creaped me out - can't wait to see the movie. BTW these are $1-2 million houses. I don't think anyone will get the impression they are low income in the movie- as I was watching the filming I was thinking they looked too nice. Perhaps photos give wrong impression, or perhaps I'm biased knowing the neighborhood.

For those who have been to the filming .. could you please enlighten me on the location? My husband and I are huge fans and would love a chance to see this in action!
