Inside you'll find our Horror in Your House for Tuesday, January 23, which features all sorts of long-awaited goodies such as Apocalypse and the Beauty Queen. In addition to some indie films you're gonna get a kick out of, Lionsgate's Saw III is finally hitting DVD so you can now have your night of Jigsaw you've been dreaming of. Read on for the full release list.

Horror in your House – January 26, 2007
By: Tex Massacre

Alien vs. Predator (theatrical & extended cuts; Blu-ray): Fox

During an archaeological expedition on Bouvetøya Island in the Antarctic Ocean, a team of archaeologists and other scientists find themselves caught up in a battle between the two legends. Soon, the team realizes that only one species can win.

High definition DVD proves once again that films best left forgotten to their previous 2 DVD releases can still be counted on to remind us of their blandness one more time. Are they seriously shooting a sequel to this crap?

Apocalypse and the Beauty Queen: Vanguard

When unforeseen circumstances leave the country in ruins, a bitter ex-fashion model rises to power only to find the two things she is unable to possess; beauty and love.

Gunner Hansen and Debbie Rochon star in this futuristic Elizabeth Bathory inspired tale.

Curse of the Black Dahlia: Highland Entertainment.

The Black Dahlia’s mutilated corpse was discovered in an empty lot in 1947. An office building now stands on that empty lot and is the home of the 21st century marketing firm American Regent. American Regent’s star employee, Jennifer, is being haunted by horrifying nightmares and hallucinations ever since the mysterious disappearance of her assistant. As the building begins to empty, the horror begins. People start turning up dead and Jennifer must face off with an insane co-worker who holds the secret to the mysterious events. Is he the killer or just another victim of something much darker?

The only “curse” I can see is the dearth of quality Dahlia films that have pervaded our once ignorant little lives. Will this one, from reality TV director Dan Goldman, make what Brian De Palma and uberhack Ulli Lommel were unable to manage—a reasonably entertaining movie? You know what they say—three strikes and you’re out another $4.00 rental fee at Blockbuster.

Monsters & Madmen (The Haunted Strangler, Corridors of Blood, First Man into Space, The Atomic Submarine; 4-disc set): Criterion (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

Launching us from a grave past to a space-age future, these two thrilling double features, from producers Richard and Alex Gordon, spin classic tales of hair-raising homicidal mania and intrepid, death-defying exploration. Featuring Boris Karloff in two of his most horrifying roles aside two classic sci-fi treats from the atomic age.

A premiere genre set from the folks at Criterion with hours of bonus material on each film. This is one collection that devoted fans should be doing backfilps over.

Night Skies: Sony Pictures

In March 13th, 1997 one of the largest UFO sightings ever recorded took place across the southwestern United States. The event became known as the 'Phoenix Lights' and was witnessed by community leaders, members of law enforcement, as well as thousands of everyday citizens. This true story, based on transcripts from actual hypnosis-therapy sessions, finally reveals what happened after the infamous incident ended and how six people, stranded by chance on a forgotten road, encountered more than just lights in the sky.

CEMETERY GATES director and visual effects maestro—Roy Knyrim’s latest, stars A.J. Cook, Jason Connery and STAR TREK’s Michael Dorn in a Close Encounter of the Direct-to-Video Kind.

Sasquatch Mountain: Monarch

A lonely tow-truck driver gets caught in a deadly struggle between a pair of bank robbers with a beautiful hostage), local cops, and a monster that has come down from the Arizona mountains to eat human flesh.

Lance Henriksen battles Bigfoot for the second time in 12 months while CABIN FEVER star Cerina Vincent heads back into the woods with her—IT WAITS director—Steven Monroe. Genre fave Tim Thomerson gets in on the action as well.

Saw II (Blu-ray): Lionsgate

Jigsaw locks a few unlucky people in a booby trapped shelter and they must find a way out before they inhale too much of a lethal nerve gas and die. But they must watch out, for the traps Jigsaw has set in the shelter also lead to death.

Oh yes, there will be blood and Blu-ray’s high definition disc is out to prove that it SAW fans will pony up for yet another edition of their favorite serial killer flick.

Saw III (R & unrated widescreen, R fullscreen special editions): Lionsgate

Jigsaw kidnaps a doctor to keep him alive while he watches his new apprentice put an unlucky citizen through a brutal test.

The wildly popular third edition of the seemingly never ending series (IV and V anyone?) arrives this week. How long before that 2-disc special edition comes ashore? My money’s on October.
