Shock rocker-turned-director Rob Zombie revealed on his official MySpace blog this afternoon that Brad Dourif will be joining the cast of Dimension Films' remake of Halloween. He will be playing Sheriff Brackett in the film, which begins lensing later this month contrary to the rumors. Dourif is best known as the voice of Chucky in the 'Child's Play' films. Tyler Mane, Malcolm McDowell, Daeg Faerch, Heather Bowen, Pat Skipper, Dee Wallace Stone, Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, Ken Foree, Danielle Harris, Adrienne Barbeau, Clint Howard, Courtney Gains and Daryl Sabara also star.
Brad Dourif is a great addition. Who could forget the character "Billy" from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
I'm liking the cast so far. Solid veteran actors. Most of them have been in some serious big time movies before. That experience will pay off in the acting. Laurie Strode will be a big role, but I think RZ's gonna make a great choice.
Drad Dourif best known as the voice of Chucky? Wow. I always thought it was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Lord of the Rings, or heck, Exorcist III. To say he's best known for a voice-over is a slap in the face to his acting abilities.
Well this *is* a horror related site, I think it's safe to say that he is best known for the Chucky movies when posting news for this audience.
I'm sure the author didn't mean anything slap-in-the-face-esque with that post.
gee rob, you think as you keep adding 70's relics to your piece of crap ideas for this movie that it will somehow save it? i feel like every 10 mins there will be someone popping up on screen to divert our attention away from the fact that the movie can't stand on its own. thought you were going to focus on mood, suspense, and atmosphere? not nudity, trash, and inside jokes/winks/nods to 70s films.
Dourif would probably have made a good Loomis, actually. Can't quite see him as a sheriff, unless hes bulked up some.
This film is sounding more and more like a joke though. It might even top FALLEN ANGELS for most execrable use of horror "icons" in a film ones supposed to take seriously. Christ, it sounds more like Fangoria is producing a remake of its a mad mad mad mad mad mad mad world than it does someone is making a Halloween film.
zombie stop bringing in these washed up relics...your ideas stink and you can't save yourself hiding behind horror icons past their prime. take a month off and rewrite the script...and lose the hillbilly trash and abuse. also, you might want to lose the 7 foot giant playing michael.
This thing's starting to look like the horror equivalent of "The Love Boat" with all the stunt casting. It's like Zombie thinks we won't notice him raping a classic if we're too busy noticing another genre legend popping up every 2 minutes.
i think is great this remake but rob zombie must be include a the number one scream queen jamie lee curtis in other role because she is bigger when michael and she stay together in the big screen
They should make HALLOWEEN an anthology with a different director every year. That way we won't end up with a bunch of retarded sequels to Zombie's already retarded mythology."Dario Argento's Halloween","Clive Barker's Halloween","Quentin Tarantino's...","David Fincher's..."etc.Like an urban legend that's different with each telling. All based on the original film.Good idea?
C'mon people. Just As I start to have a little faith in you, were still getting serious negative banter. How can you dis the actors so far? Do you not know the work alot of these actors have done ? Do your homework. Who the hell wants to see actors from the O.C.,Dawson's Creek,Buffy, 90210 crap ? No thank's. Jump on board people.
As I said before, finish your book report before you sneak on the family computer to post your serious diluted adolescent understanding. Better yet speed dial "Rob" for another payment so you can parrot the comapny line about "negativity", "the final product", yadda yadda yadda etc. etc. etc. et al Did "Rob promise you a covted spot on his weak a#s myspace page. You must feel special. Certainly the many who've posted LEGITIMATE gripes here can't hold a candle to YOUR understanding.....
DAMN theirs a bunch of cry babys crying about this movie just becuase rob zombie is changing things around. I am actually glad hes changing things around, at least now their will be new things in this movie instead of the shape just walking after his victims... anyways this casting is really awsome. i am sure zombie will make this movie worth its hype. can not wait.
i must admit my man-love for rob. like many, i blindly follow him no matter how bad his ideas are. hey there is a new, impressionable generation out there to scare using hip, MTV style camera tricks, nudity, shock and rock soundtracks, etc. he will make us all proud with this atrocity.
Sauron is right on with everything hes said. This is going to suck more than anything has sucked before.Zombie is a clueless talentless fanboy. He deosnt love the horror genre and he certainly doesnt understand it. I like a few of the casting choices but nothing will save this abortion of the script. Everyone involved with giving this guy money to make this should be ashamed of themselves.
Whiner's and insult's.It's a joke because your opinions are being made about a movie you have yet to see. You just ASSUME it will be bad. Your a real Ebert & Roeper. If you dislike Rob Zombie, fine, don't see it. But be intelligent and wait for something to have"legitimate gripes" about. How do you know it will be bad? By the way, I'm not a big RZ fan. I thought his first movie sucked, the Devil's Reject's was better. But the movie's being made no matter what. So I'm all for trying a new approach with the script. The sequels have been awful, so take it in a new direction. If it's bad, I'll be the first to say it is.But I do want to like it and I hope it's good. I'm just trying to be positive. You should try it sometime.
Does anyone else think that the 'mood masks' idea makes little sense? If Michael needs to wear different masks in order to express his moods/actions, what does the Shatner mask represent? It doesn't look like an 'I wanna kill you' mask, does it? And what would happen if he couldn't find an appropriate mask to wear at a given time? "Damn, I wanna kill some teenagers, but I've only got my 'I'm feeling sleepy' mask"?
I think the shatner mask will be the emotionless mask due to it being white and well... Emotionless... Not sure how the idea about changing masks will pay off though, i'm hoping its just when he's a kid and he sticks to the shatner mask when he is an adult because by that time he would've become "The Shape."
As for the cry babies moaning about Zombies casting, what the hell is wrong with you? Would you rather have a bunch of unknown teens who can't act for shit? Or a cast of experienced genre legends who probably love the source material? Just shows that Zombie can do nothing right with this movie. I bet you don't even like the fact that he's keeping the mask the same? I can't wait to see this movie, i'd take this remake over another shitty sequel any day, and if i hate it (AFTER I'VE SEEN IT) then i will post what i didn't like about it, but until then i will just wait to see the final product.
Hey, Dark one? Your right on. Preach it brother. You are one of the few comment's that is intelligent. All this negative B.S. about a movie, (I'll say it again), THAT HAS YET TO COME OUT!!!! But some how,we got people( Just scroll down and read) that have the Hollywood inside scoop and just NO FOR A FACT, this is the worst movie ever. I'll say this again also, I love the original, it's an all time classic. RZ's version, good or bad, wont ruin a thing.Being a big horror fan, I want it to be good. But all this expecting it to be bad,(one more time)A MOVIE YOU HAVE NOT F$#!@N SEEN!! Is how do you say Sauron, diluted adolescent understanding. By the way, got an A on the book report. it was called "How Rob Zombie Ruined My Life".
i can't believe the garbage ideas i've been reading about this movie going around the internet. does this guy have any idea what made the original work? i hope zombie is reading the backlash from the script reviews and changes his story around. michael should remain evil and mysterious, not a product of a shitty, trailer trash childhood.
Considering there is NOT ONE SHRED of evidence that this movie even MIGHT be good while there's MORE than enough to suggest it will be terrible pretty much makes any excuses for it irrelevant and sound like defensive Zombie fanboy apologists. If you know HALLOWEEN and realize its place in horror and you still defend this crap then you really don't have a clue. This doesn't even sound like a good movie much less a HALLOWEEN movie.
I'm not defending anyone. I'm not a big Zombie fan. I'm defending the idea and the chance that this could be a good movie, without passing judgement on a movie unseen. The script alone does not tell me how good or bad this will be. That's a matter of opinion. And I do happen to like some(not all) of the ideas and direction it's going. Again, I'm a huge horror fan. There's been very little to celebrate over the years in term's of new releases. I would really like this to be great because I'm a fan of the character. All the sequels have been awful, he's not scary anymore. Take it into new territory and see what happen's. And as I've said, good or bad, what does this do to the original? NOTHING. If it suck's, I'll be the first to say so, but if it's good, would you own up and admit it? Or is your obvious hatred for RZ(someone you don't even know),that strong.
(to Jonny) Remakes that are extremely crappy (like this one may be) are insulting to the legacy of the original, its creators and fans. Just imagine if they decided to remake a movie like Star Wars and hired a director w/ very little experience and a lot of terrible ideas. You can bet that the star wars geeks wouldn't take that quietly. Halloween is like that but for horror fans.
To Born to Kill (great name by the way)
Gus Van Zant remade Psycho, another classic. But that did nothing to Hitchcock's legacy. Remake's are going to happen, sign of the times. I'll bet were not far off from talking about The Exorcist, or maybe Jaws. Which seems crazy, but probably a reality at some point. I'm with you about this movie on some levels, I understand the die hard fan's (me being one) and the creators concern. From what I've read, John Carpenter gave RZ his blessing. My whole point from the get go on these message boards was that no matter what, it's being made. I'm just trying to be optimistic that it could be good and to not jump the gun on dissing it just yet. Judge accordingly when you've actually seen it.
There is NO reason to give Zombie's travesty of a script the benefit of the doubt.Hopefully the rumors of forced rewrites are true. And if so, hopefully somebody has listened to the fan backlash and can at least give us the real Michael Myers.Zombie's apologists deserve shame and should not be taken seriously since it only shows their ignorance and blind devotion to someone who claims to love horror yet hasn't shown ANY kind of knowledge as to what makes HALLOWEEN (of all movies)special. And those who take a 'wait and see' attitude I ask you:What more do you need to see/hear/read to tell you that a movie will suck?
i can't believe that brad dourif is in the halloween reamake it will be sick it will be like watching michael vs chucky lol i really love brad dourif for being chuckys voice and also making an appearance in alien ressurection rock on :)
