One of the best Asian horror films in years is the Thai film Shutter, which we've been ranting and raving about here at B-D for years. The film finally hits US DVD on March 27th thanks to Tartan Asia Extreme - and the timing couldn't be any more perfect. Today the first casting was announced for the Vertigo produced remake, read on for the skinny on that and to see who is directing the film.
Rachael Taylor (Transformers) has signed on to star in Shutter, a psychological thriller being directed by Masayuki Ochiai (Infection) for Regency. Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison are producing with Taka Ichise, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The story revolves around a young American couple on their honeymoon in Tokyo who begin seeing ghostly images in their photos as well as around them.
Taylor plays the new bride.
Shooting is scheduled to begin next month in Tokyo.
Fox will distribute the movie, which is a remake of the 2004 Thai film. Luke Dawson wrote the screenplay.
Alex Sundell is overseeing for Regency president of production Sanford Panitch.
The Australian-born Taylor is in DreamWorks' upcoming tentpole "Transformers," which opens July 4. She also appeared in "See No Evil" and played Catherine Oxenberg in ABC's "Dynasty: The Making of a Guilty Pleasure."
Why do the remakes persist in populating Japan with Gaijin? If you're setting a film in Japan give us a Japanese cast, if you're giving us a white cast then why not set it in The States?
I watchd Shutter and thought it was great but there's nothing in it that wouldn't cross the ocean intact.
