TIFF '08: Another Clip From French Thriller 'Vinyan'
Posted: August 29, 2008 @ 12:51pm

If you head on over to Premiere.fr, you can check out yet another clip from Fabrice du Welz's Vinyan, which will have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Still not having accepted the loss of their son in a tsunami disaster, Janet and Paul Behlmer are back in Bangkok. Hanging onto the fact that his body has never been discovered, Janet desperately clings to the idea that pirates might have kidnapped their kid in the confusion that followed the catastrophe. Looking for someone to guide them in the Thai underworld, they bribe their way to a mysterious Mr. Gao, who takes them to Ranong, where a mercenary supplies them with a boat and crew to explore the pirate-infested shores of Burma. Slowly, they will lose themselves into a strange child-infested jungle and to their inner demons. Click here for all TIFF news.

TIFF '08: New Look at J.T. Petty's 'The Burrowers'
Posted: August 29, 2008 @ 1:49am

Last October we brought you this ultra-early look at J.T. Petty's The Burrowers, which features a creepy look at one of the underground creatures from the film. Since then, we've seen nothing all too interesting. Today we scored another five stills, non of which would lead any of us to believe it's a horror film. I can't wait to see it and tell you what I think... In the film, after a family is brutally murdered in their home, a group of ranchers and infantry men embark on a crusade to find the killers. When a mysterious killer attacks their ranks, they discover that carnivorous creatures are hiding beneath the surface of the earth waiting to feed on their flesh. New 'Saw V' Image Has Us Drowning In Thought
Posted: August 29, 2008 @ 1:22am

Earlier today we brought you a first look at the final poster for Lionsgate's Saw V, now a few B-D readers sent us a link to a brand new image from the film, which arrives in theaters October 24th. Unfortunately, there's nothing all that new in the image as it's already been shown in the teaser trailer and in an earlier still - hopefully more will pop up soon. In the fifth installment of the popular SAW franchise, which was directed by David Hackl, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends. ...Read More

EXCLUSIVE Director in Talks For 'Poltergeist' Remake
Posted: August 28, 2008 @ 8:06pm

With all of the fowl stories circulating on the web as of late, we've been working extra hard in confirming our news before posting. Although, even when we confirm a story, sometimes the parties involved still deny it (like Natalie Portman in SUSPIRIA). I don't blame 'em, because if the deal is yet to be signed, who is to say that the news hitting the web might not quirk the deal? This afternoon we learned that Vadim Perelman is in heavy talks to helm the remake of POLTERGEIST for MGM, which was (finally) officially announced here this month. Obviously, until a press release hits the web confirming the story, nothing is official. Personally, sticking the director of HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG behind the lens of a horror film (an important one at that), sounds like the worst idea ever to me... ...Read More

Thomas Jane Will NOT Be 'Jonah Hex'
Posted: August 28, 2008 @ 12:13pm

It has turned out that Thomas Jane had started his own campaign to play Jonah Hex in Warner Bros. Pictures' adaptation of the comic book of the same name. The Movie Blog caught up co-writer and co-director Brian Taylor who explains,“He’s a great guy,” referring to Jane, “But we… don’t see the guy as Jonah Hex, to be quite honest with you. But we like him.” Hex, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood. ...Read More

Posted: August 28, 2008 @ 11:59am

This year's Frightfest UK has come and gone, and what came of it (besides a flurry of talk about some short intros created by Adam Green and Joe Lynch) was that the next big thing is a film called Mum & Dad, which we first told you about here. Various sources tells us that the talk of the massive UK film festival was Steven Sheil's film, which is said to be fantastic. Twilight Star Toplines Creepy 'Summer' Thriller
Posted: August 28, 2008 @ 2:42am

Awesome! A year or so ago I read a script by Sean Hogan and Christine Conradt entitled Summer, which I thought was really flippin' cool. I was shocked tonight to discover that the film is already halfway through its Ottawa shoot, with Lee De Marbre behind the camera. Ashley Greene (Twilight; pictured inside) is set to topline alongside Stephen McHattie (Watchmen, Pontypool), Barbara Niven and Peter Mooney, who will all play the deranged kinfolk that Greene's character encounters on her quest to find the father she's never known. ...Read More

New Zealand [REC] Promotion Draws REAL Blood
Posted: August 27, 2008 @ 1:29pm

One of my favorite foreign horror films of all-time is Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's Spanish flick [REC] (review), which has already been remade here in the States as QUARANTINE (hitting theaters October 10). While the remake is already arriving in theaters, the original is still making its way around the world giving horror fans a taste of some real horror. While the film was making its rounds in New Zealand, a promotion for the release made the news as it was banned by the New Zealand censors. Read on to see what happened... ...Read More
