'Friday the 13th' Remake Still on Track for Late 2008?

It's been a long time since we've heard anything from Platinum Dunes regarding their remake of Friday the 13th, which is set up over at New Line Cinema. This past weekend B-D reporter Loomis7 had a chance to interview Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form for their upcoming film The Hitcher, where they spilled the latest news on the delayed remake, which still has Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw: The Beginning) attached to direct. Read on for the short news.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form tell Bloody-Disgusting, "We’re working on a script right now and I think next year, maybe end of the year we will have it out. Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Begginning, Darkness Falls) is still attached, but he’s got a lot of things rolling around. If he’s available when we have the script we’d love to work with him again."

They also tell B-D that if the film comes into fruitation that it will be not only a New Line Cinema film, but also a Paramount Pictures movie... giving a lot more freedom to work with the script.

Originally it was said that the remake would incorporate components of the films, though it is known that Jason will wear the mask and will kill. The setting will be that of the first movie, Crystal Lake. Although we're told they won't be usuing the original treatment for the film, so watch for more details as they come in.

THE HITCHER hits theaters January 19th.

Well...it sounds like the story is already screwed to be honest, but lets face it...Jason is #1 to me, but I van admit that the story lines were never that great in any of the films save for the 1st 4th and 6th......so this might be just what the series needs. I just need some more jason bloodshed myself

I love F13 to death, so forgive me, for I am gonna go on a long rant. The last few entries have not been good (except for FvJ). But a remake? Screw it. We've gone this far. I say just make another sequel and don't let it suck. I'm sick of Platinum Dunes and their damn remakes! Something original, please! Or atleast a sequel. They are the "P. Diddy" of horror. And Jonathan Liebesman... well... Darkness Falls! Thats all I need to say. The series really wasn't bad until New Line took over. I don't expect newer fans to share my opinion, but I think the older fans will atleast, might not agree, but somewhat understand my point of view. You can get the fear and darkness of the older ones without having to remake the whole damn thing. And if New Line wants a better movie... putting Darkness Falls directer and two producers who failed to make a better version of "The Amityville Bore" doesn't really give this remake much hope. I'm just tired of New Line trashing this series. I mean I love them all, because they are part of the series, but I must say that I still see the major flaws in, namely 8, 9 and especially 10. Space? Yea, thanks for that piece of crap, Todd Farmer and Jim Isaac. Who let those two doosies make a movie? That one was just plain insulting. In closing let me just say that if the best you can do (without Freddy) is JGTH, then maybe you should scrap the remake and sell the rights to someone who can.

I was so excited to find out that Platinum Dunes is working on a remake for Friday the 13th.Like alot of people I'm a fan of the earlier 13th movies before New Line took over but I like what they did for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and hope to see the Friday the 13th re-make go back to it's original setting and maybe give Jason some of the flare and identity that Leather Face has in the re make. All I ask is they take the time to write a good script and come up with a really creepy setting like they did with the 1st Texas re-make.

I think they're going to wait till the Halloween remake comes out in August to see how well Zombie's re-imaging works. If audiences like all of the new back story he's laying in there I think you'll see more of that in the new Friday. Which I think would be great! I would love to know how Jason became the killer he is today.

I'm one of many Friday the 13th fans and to be quite honest,I agree for this new franchise of friday the 13 should proceed. The first friday movie is a classic flick along with its original sequels wasnt so bad until New Line Cinema took over and that when the series really sux including jason goes to hell, is perhaps one of the worst horror flicks of all time. In closing, I want the Jason Voorhees to continue his rage at Camp Crystal Lake Forever. And please bring mrs Voorhees to this new opening sequel why not...
