It's been a long time since we've heard anything from Platinum Dunes regarding their remake of Friday the 13th, which is set up over at New Line Cinema. This past weekend B-D reporter Loomis7 had a chance to interview Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form for their upcoming film The Hitcher, where they spilled the latest news on the delayed remake, which still has Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw: The Beginning) attached to direct. Read on for the short news.
Brad Fuller and Andrew Form tell Bloody-Disgusting, "We’re working on a script right now and I think next year, maybe end of the year we will have it out. Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Begginning, Darkness Falls) is still attached, but he’s got a lot of things rolling around. If he’s available when we have the script we’d love to work with him again."
They also tell B-D that if the film comes into fruitation that it will be not only a New Line Cinema film, but also a Paramount Pictures movie... giving a lot more freedom to work with the script.
Originally it was said that the remake would incorporate components of the films, though it is known that Jason will wear the mask and will kill. The setting will be that of the first movie, Crystal Lake. Although we're told they won't be usuing the original treatment for the film, so watch for more details as they come in.
THE HITCHER hits theaters January 19th.
