Today we've posted the first Horror in Your House of the New Year, which starts off 2007 with a bang. This upcoming week holds all sorts of options, including Sony's The Covenant and New Line Home Entertainment's Snakes on a Plane. Read on for the full list of films coming to DVD on Tuesday and see which film is Tex's "Pick of the Week".

Horror in Your House—January 2, 2007
By: Tex Massacre

Brainiac: Brain Damage Films

Brain chemistry research has produced a drug - Nirvana - that can wipe out addiction and mental illness by stimulating pleasure centers in the brain and flooding the brain with endorphins. PsyMax Labs is about to release Nirvana, but suddenly something goes terribly wrong. Nirvana causes drastic genetic changes, switching on dormant genes to produce BRAINIAC, a creature whose need for the brain's pleasure chemicals causes it to begin eating human brains!

A microbudget, in-name-only, homage to Mexican director Chano Urueta’s 1961 epic of B-movie glory—that misses out on the fun of the original, but does manage to deliver the same dollar store special effect work—I’m not sure that’s a compliment.

The Covenant (special edition): Sony Pictures

Four young students at an elite private school who are descendants of the original families who settled in Ipswich Colony in the 1600s, are bound by their sacred ancestry and special powers. When the body of a dead student is discovered after a party, secrets begin to unravel that threaten to break the covenant of silence that has protected their families for hundreds of years.

It’s THE CRAFT for the Abercrombie set as director Renny Harlin (EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING) and writer J.S. Cardone (THE FORSAKEN) follow the lives of a group of young warlocks that look far to old to be in High School.

Dark Places: Brain Damage Films

Keri Walker thinks she has hit rock bottom. A drug addicted prostitute, Keri has seen the darkest side of life... until her life takes a turn for the worse. During one more in a long line of illicit sex-for-money transactions, Keri must defend herself and inadvertently kills her attacker. Covered in blood and on the run, Keri makes her way to a house that offers people in her situation a roof over their heads and litttle else. The house, filled with addicts, rapists and, most of all, victims is run by a pair of sadists whose cruelty is legendary. Luther and Lilith gleefully lead Keri through their hell house and bring her to a point of desperation few people ever live to see.

MACHINED alumni David C. Hayes and Nessa Hawkins join the sexy Syn DeVil (THE WITCH’S SABBATH) in this psychological thriller from director Guy Crawford.

Dark Portal: The Chronicles of Vidocq: Lionsgate

Paris. 1830. When the infamous detective Vidocq disappears in the middle of a busy city, nobody can explain the abduction. His archenemy, the Alchemist, the assassin Vidocq has been tracking, is the prime suspect. However, as the police continue to come up empty handed, Vidocq's assistant Etienne his biographer, takes the case into his own hands and delves into the underworld of Paris to find the missing detective.

Cult French Visual Effects artist Pitof (CITY OF LOST CHILDREN) makes his feature debut on this 2001 film—that looks a helluva lot better than his last production, CATWOMAN!

The Darkroom: Anchor Bay

A teenage boy befriends an escapee from a mental institution who sees visions of horrible murders being committed.

Writer/Producer/Director team Mark Altman and Mike Hurst (HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2, ROOM 6) return with a psychological thriller featuring XENA’s Lucy Lawless and HEROES’ Greg Grunberg.

Nutcracker: Brain Damage Films

It's another crazy Christmas and psychotherapist Dr. Carlton Fairfax, Jr. is losing control of his patients and his sanity—then he meets one particularly mysterious patient who sees to it that he definitely continues down that road.

Holiday horrors keep coming with this 2001 bloodbath, featuring David Hess. This title was previously available as part of the August 2006 compilation release DEMENTED DEVIANTS.

Snakes on a Plane (special edition) (DVD Review): New Line (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

On board a flight over the Pacific Ocean, an assassin, bent on killing a passenger who's a witness in protective custody, lets loose a crate full of deadly snakes.

My pick of the week? You’re muthafuckin’ right!
