Chris Moore Trains Teens to Become 'Killers'

Chris Moore, who notoriously ripped apart novice directors on "Project Greenlight," is stepping behind the camera to make his directorial debut on Killers, a horror-action movie that will star Agnes Bruckner, Taryn Manning and Patrick Flueger, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Element Films, Lift Films and Benderspink are producing this interesting pic, which pits teens against teens in a game of death. Read on for the story.

"Killers" revolves around a group of close friends who visit a remote vacation home to celebrate their college graduation. While there, they are put to a horrifying test by a mysterious killer who forces them into a game where they have to kill each other in order to survive.

The script was written by Kelly C. Palmer, a Los Angeles-based corporate lawyer who was attending screenwriting classes at night. A classmate referred the Kentucky-bred Palmer to Neal Flaherty at Benderspink, who read a writing sample. Flaherty met with Palmer and helped him develop what would become "Killers."

Moore was a producer on such films as "Good Will Hunting" and the "American Pie" series before co-founding LivePlanet with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Sean Bailey. The company was behind the "Greenlight" TV series, which gave filmmakers a chance at Hollywood dreams. Moore gained a reputation for butting heads with his directors on the series.

Moore said he plans to act accordingly.

"I'm trying to behave the way I wish the directors I had my run-ins with would have behaved," Moore said. "I want to be open and will try to listen to others. I get to make a lot of decisions as a director but there are people who are financing this that I still have to listen to."

As to why he chose "Killers" for his debut, he said he "wanted to do something that was pretty contained, and something that I could work with actors on.

"And I really thought the script was clever. All of us wonder who would we be in extreme situations, whether it's a natural disaster or if someone came after your family. Would you be Rambo or disappear in a corner?"

Element is financing and producing through its joint venture with New Orleans-based Lift Films. Principal photography is set to begin Nov. 13 in New Orleans. Element has a long-standing relationship with the film-friendly state, as it has shot numerous films there, including its upcoming Kevin Costner starrer "Mr. Brooks" and the Ryan Phillippe-starrer "Five Fingers."

"Killers" will be distributed by Lionsgate as part of Element's multipicture distribution deal with the company.

The film will be Benderspink's first production since last year's critically acclaimed "A History of Violence."

Producing the film are Adam Rosenfelt, Julie Dangel and Chris Bender. Sam Nazarian is exec producing. Amanda White is serving as associate producer, while Jill McElroy and Flaherty are co-producing. Dan Abrams also is producing in some capacity.

Bruckner, repped by ICM and Curtis Management, starred in "The Woods" and next stars in the horror-romance "Blood and Chocolate." Manning, who appeared in "Hustle & Flow," is repped by WMA. WMA-repped Flueger appears regularly on Sci Fi Channel's "The 4400."

Palmer is repped by UTA, Benderspink and attorney Karl Austen.

Moore is repped by Endeavor.
