The Trailer Park: A Long Look at the 'Day of the Dead' Remake
Monday, October 23, 2006

By: MrDisgusting

Upodated: Read on to watch -- I'm not saying anything -- nothing at all, I'll let you be the judge for yourself (sigh). If you click here you can watch the trailer for Nu Image's remake of Day of the Dead, which was directed by Steven Miner, written by Jeffrey Reddick and stars Ving Rhames, Mena Suvari, Michael Welch, Annalynne McCord, Stark Sands, Nick Cannon and Christa Campbell. The original follows a group of scientists and military personnel holed up in an underground bunker because the world above is overrun with zombies. The lumbering flesheaters eventually find a way in and wreak havoc on the scientists who've been experimenting on their undead brethren.

I am sick to death (pun intended) of worthless remakes, sequels, prequels and Japanese movie ripoffs. I enjoyed the Dawn and Hills remakes tremendously but this is just getting silly. And now Hellraiser? Say it isn't so. Doesn't anyone have the balls to make ORIGINAL horror anymore? Bring on Hatchet. FUCK REMAKES, I'm DONE WITH THEM.

I don't think it looks that bad. And personally I don't think ALL of the remakes have been bad either. I just love horror... period. As long as it's not comical like that gawd awful Land of the Dead bullshit. Or that even worse Undead. UGH!

Nick Cannon? What the fuck? This isn't even a remake...it's has nothing to do with what "Day of the Dead" was about. This is like a different account all together. There is no military base it seems, just a camp. Oh well, we'll all go see it anyway....but Nick Cannon? I'm sorry but he is NOT hilarious.

I thought they were making this as a sequel to the Dawn of the Dead remake, but Ving Rhames plays a new character? Oh, and the trailer sucked. More of the same and very lackluster.

Did'nt they already know about the zombie infestation in the original! Blow. Ving Rhames and nick cannon's career ender "if Nick Cannon had a career in the first place, drumroll blow. This movie looks so cheap it should of debut on Sci Fi Channel, Blow. "In my opinion" The only way to stop the movie industry from making shitty remakes " or remakes all together " is to make them suffer in the box office. Why don't they take what little money they have and make a movie where they slit their wrists and cry.

Holy crap...I just saw House of the Dead 2 on tv...it was so bad I was sucked in for 2 hours....but this Day of the Dead remake makes that look like Citizen Kane. I mean I expected bad, but this is unreal. For all of the folks who hated the DOTD remake...put that up against this turd and you might change your minds!

You know, James Gunn and Zach Snyder got lucky. LUCKY! You can't remake Romero right unless you have all your cards lined up. And let's put it this way: There is no way Nick Cannon is in your perfect hand. FUCK THIS MOVIE! (I will avoid making a Uwe Boll reference because everyone else already has) ...But if I were to make a Uwe Boll reference, I'd say Burt Reynolds in Dungeon Seige is looking more promising, but not by much...

Well I have to admit that this isn't the "300" or "Sin City" kind of trailer and it didn't blew me away either, BUT this Day Remake doesn't NEARLY look that bad like all you guys make it. The camera is nice, the actors are ok and the zombies are looking great. They run, they even jump - maybe it isn't the classic slow moving-zombie-style, I know, but it worked in the Dawn Remake, which I think was a great "new kind of" zombie flick. I'm a big Romero Fan - I love the Dead Series(well who doesn't? :-) ), but I am also open minded and have no problem with that new kind of zombies. If it also got enough headshots, bites & plenty buckets of blood in it, I'm really looking forward for that one. Everyone can have it's own opinion about this remake, but to compare this trailer to Uwe Bowl's movies, which are kind of funny to watch because the acting, the story & the directing is so bad & lame, or even the latest Return of the Living Dead movies(which are an insult to every (zombie)movie fan because of their stupidity & fucked up actors - hell even house of the dead didn't sucked that much!), isn't a qualified comparsion.....in my personal opinion ;-)

Not all that bad. I like what Romero did but I do not feel he set some gold standard others must measure up to. This movie is obviously different than the original and I think that is good. Who wants to see a 2007 version of the exact same movie? It makes no sense. I say see it if you like zombie movies and do not feel you are selling out by seeing it.

Yeah this DEFINITELY has the markings of a "made for Sci-Fi Channel" movie. Lame young actors who are totally unbelievable in their roles, fast running zombies and cheesy effects reminding me of NOTLD4 + 5. I'm sorry but to believe that the girl from American Pie is a top officer in the Army is a joke.....i'm not even getting started on Nick Cannon. Judging from the trailer this is just a remake of the new Dawn movie where it goes back to the beginning of the outbreak. They should just call it Dawn of the Dead 2: Crap from the Grave.

They could of at least continued the time line from the last remake. I loved the remake, it scared me in a different way than romero's did(which scared me, no lie). I feel the scariest thing about the nu zombies is that they are so fast, it is almost impossible to get away from them. That was my biggest gripe against the remake of dawn, in the beginning, the husband zombie almost races down a mazda(or whatever kind of car she was driving) yet later in the film, when they were running through the mall trying to escape, they out paced them. But it is that sence of futility in the first ten minutes of the remake that I loved. I have been misled by trailors before. I would think that something would suck, but would turn out great. Hopefully that is the case. sorry for the long rant stephen

Yeah this looks like grabage... really dissappointing too cause when I heard it was being remade I was expecting something... wel... good. You know, along the lines of the Dawn of The Dead remake. This is trash, its a steaming pile of shit. I'm throughly, thoroughly dissappointed and have absolutely no intention of seeing it now... where's Zach Snyder on this?

It’s interesting to compare the remakes of “Dawn” and “Day” of the dead. With “Dawn,” much like the Romero-authorized remake of “Night,” the story is much the same, altered for era, society, etc. Some events are changed (in the remake, Barbara lives, Ben dies, with better results; in “Dawn,” the people are different, but it works for 21st century America), but the essential story is the same. Judging from the trailer for the “remake” of “Day,” perhaps only the names and title will be the same. There’s military, and civilians. There’s zombies. That looks to be it. Some scenes in this trailer actually look interesting. Zombies jumping out of the buildings? Cool! The beginning of a plague, and shady corporate responsibility? Foolish and stupid. It’s much like Day of the Dead 2: Contagium….title is stolen, for a crappy story. This film, looking waaaay too clean and bright, and looking very low-budget/quality as well, looks like it may be a potentially decent film. But good enough for the box office, a la the Dawn remake? Not hardly. Worthy of being the remake of Day? Not even close. This is a waste of Ving Rhames and Mena Suvari, and others in the cast. Day is worthy of being remade, with superior production values, and a good cast. A good start would be to return to the original, extended script Romero wrote and update it for 2006/7, which would be worthwhile. This doesn’t look to be such a remake, sadly, but a low-quality “paycheck” movie. Shame.

Wow,I am a big zombie fan and I was so excited to see this movie being remade. After seeing who the actors are and the setting... it looks like crap! Come on Nick Cannon, I can just guess he will be the comic relief bad-ass who does not even get touched! Ving Rhames twin brother would help this story line a little. I have never been so disapointed.

This is why i would rather go see Horrofest. Those are quality movies with suspense, a sense of actual surprise and good storylines. None of the recent "horror" (And i use that term loosely) films have done anything for me. They need to bring back movies like those from back in the day. True make you jump out of your seat horror slasher flicks. Like most of you i will see this one regardless. I already have the entire dead series in my collection so when this is on DVD i will get it. I dare anyone name a good horror flick released in theatres in the last 5 or 6 years. And if you even mention Hills have Eyes, Hostel or Wolf's Creek i will slap the fuck out of you. Those movies sucked more ass than Boy George at a republican convention.

Well I guess we know who's playin ben if they re-make night... Ving Rhames again... I didnt like nu Dawn's fast zombies until I put aside my Zombie Purist expectations and now I have to say it was (over all) a better movie than the master's own attempt at re-introducing zombies, aka Land... But James Gunn should have at least bee asked to try his hand again. I like what he did with dawn, how he made it his own seperate creation from Georgi-boy's, and I like what he did with slither. But this can kiss my ass. I'm more excited about 28 weeks later than Day of the Dead... and I never thought I'd say that... "Bad day to be a zombie"..."fan, that is"...

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH! NICK CANNON?! ARE YOU F'IN SERIOUS?! I was SOOOO excited when I heard about this; the "Dawn" remake was amazing (and I want to stress Dawn was not a shot by shot remake - it the same premise, but Zack took it into another direction). I foolishly set a similar expectation when I head about Day AND that Ving was in it. Then I found out that this was done by the guys that did Final Destination & Lake Placid. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This is just another teenie "horror" flick loaded with cheap tricks to spook $10 out of the pockets of horny teenages on a Sat night... ... f'in Nick Cannon... oh jeez...

I can't believe they are doing this one again. I love the original (Classic), and maybe the second one (1999 or 2000,somethiing) but a third one. And with Ving Rhame. He did the remake of "Dawn of the dead" a year a so ago..And it was just on Sci-Fi channel, tonight (Here in Maryland).Looking at the trialer, it looks pretty. But come guys, let's not ruin a really good show..Now that is juts my feelings. Thanks Rebel, the true horror nut..

The worst part is, there are so many people who will complain about this film on boards - but then go see it in the cinimas as it has been soo long since any zombie / horror film has come out. We pay, they get rich and decide to make another remake next year. The system sucks.

okay i cant stand this anymore. yes this film looks disappointing, yes im a huge zombie fan..... but come, all of these people talking about how ridicules this remake is and how great the original was... okay how many underground "stone" caves do you know of in south Florida were this is "supposed" to take place...? okay the water table in south Florida, is maybe 4 foot under the soil, you have to have a pump to keep water pumped out just to try to install a swimming pool the ground their is sandy, not stone like out west or up north were these types of caves would exist. im sorry this film looks like crap but the other ones plot is just as laughable,..... at least this one is set in an area this could take place...... and while im at it..... land of the dead was horrible...what a disappointment. Im sorry I liked night of the living dead but I think Romero has been on a steady decline since…. At this point I think he is WAY over hyped…
