Simon West Prods. has optioned Salty from novelist Mark Haskell Smith, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Simon West, director of "When a Stranger Calls," intends to produce and direct. Smith, a Los Angeles-based writer, is almost finished with the screenplay about a reformed sex-addicted bass player who gets dragged to Thailand for a vacation by his ex-supermodel wife. While in Thailand, his wife is kidnapped by Thai pirates raising money to buy a new boat.
