Some top secret news is about to be spilled, and you guys are all about to hear it first here at B-D. We broke the news a few weeks back (here) that Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures had reshoots done on their upcoming horror pic The Messengers, which was initially helmed by the Pang bros.- the shocker was that someone else directed the new sequences, but who? We knew they were done and we knew that Raimi was extremely happy with what was done, but we had no idea who this top secret director was. After some hardcore digging we've got the skinny! Read on and see who it is.
We have confirmed 100% that Eduardo Rodriguez, who directed the amazing Mexican horror film Curandero (The Healer), directed the reshoots in Sony's upcoming film, which hits theaters February 2, 2007. We also now know that there were test screenings held and that the audience loved all of Rodriguez's newly shot scenes- could he have a future with Ghost House Pictures? We hope so! Curandero, which was written by Robert Rodriguez (Grind House, From Dusk Till Dawn), is still looking for a release through WeinsteinCo. sometime next year.
"The Messegers" is a horror tale that follows the lives of a family moving into a run-down sunflower farm. As the farm begins to revive after years of disrepair, the family begins to notice uncomfortable and alarming changes in their father's behavior.
