We broke the news last week (here) that Pulse director Jim Sonzero is already working with Dimension Films on his next project, Demons, an adaptation of a novel by John Shirley. What we didn't know was that there are numerous films in the works that are being adapted from novels by Shirley! Inside we've got the skinny on what you may see in the near future...
Films based on four books by John Shirley are now in the Hollywood fastlane. Jim Sonzero is directing the adaptation of Shirley's novel DEMONS (details) for Dimension Films.
Shirley's IN DARKNESS WAITING (details), in development with Gold Circle (WHITE NOISE, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING), "is now moving forward very quickly and there's a strong desire to get into production by early next year at the latest," according to production sources. Matt Venne scripts. The novel was re-published by Infrapress (details) last year.
Shirley himself is now writing a script, adapting his novel CRAWLERS (details). There is also interest in his soon-to-be published novel THE OTHER END (details). The new edition of his novel CELLARS (details), also from Infrapress, is garnering heavy movie interest as well.
Shirley, a resident of the San Francisco Bay area, will be attending The 64th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) 23-27 August 2006 in Anaheim, CA.
