Last night it was announced that hot off the tail of New Line Cinema's highly anticipated Snakes on a Plane, director Davis Ellis (interview) will helm a pic entitled Asylum for Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Entertainment, which is producing and fully financing the pic. Not much was revealed about the pic other that it the story is about a group of college freshmen who learn that their dorm was once a notorious asylum. We decided to try and find out more info (since we're big fans of Ellis) and scored some really juicy details from the man himself! Read on for the skinny...
David Ellis tells B-D exclusively that the film follows "A group of freshman students who attend a summer orientation at their college. They are confronted by past tragic events in their lives and terrorized by a evil doctor that used to run the asylum, who performed various acts of torture on the patients. They have to figure out if it's real or if they are the just imagining it," he continues, "When they realize it is in fact real it becomes a non-stop chase from the Dr. to stay alive."
We also were curious what exactly caused Ellis to pick this script over many others, "I was attracted to the script and to the idea of doing a independent film with Ashok from Hyde Park... we will retain more creative control."
But what we really liked hearing was his main goal for the film, "I like working in the R-rated horror films and this one will scare the **** out of people! I am working again with my producing partner, and daughter, Tawny Ellis."
The film, based on a script by Ethan Lawrence, is set to start lensing later this year.
