One down and one to go as my favorite actress of all time (sarcasm), Renee Zellweger, has officially dropped out of Paramount Pictures' long-delayed remake of The Eye, which Japanese director Hideo Nakata signed onto before his 'The Ring Two' embarrassed DreamWorks. Now if only he'd drop off the project I can get excited for it again. And with all good news, there's got to be some bad as Zellweger has joined the cast of Paramount's horror thriller Case 39. You can read all of the lovely details inside, hopefully 'The Eye' remake with happen one day (sigh)...
Renee Zellweger has signed to topline the horror thriller 'Case 39' for Paramount Pictures, according to the Hollywood Rpeorter. The actress recently dropped out of another Paramount horror film, C/W Prods.' "The Eye," which is now in turnaround.
Penned by Ray Wright, "Case 39" centers on an idealistic social worker (Zellweger) who saves an abused 10-year-old girl from her parents only to discover that things are not as they appear.
The studio is looking for a director. Kevin Misher is producing through his Paramount-based Misher Films alongside Anonymous Content's Steve Golin. "Case 39" originally was set up at Morgan Creek Prods., with Universal Pictures distributing. The film is scheduled to begin shooting July 31 in Vancouver.
In 'The Eye' remake, a blind girl gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again. However, she got more than what she bargained for when she realized she could even see ghosts. And some of these ghosts are down right unfriendly. So she embarks on a journey to find the origins of her cornea and to reveal the history of the previous dead owner.
