James Gunn's Next, No 'Dawn of the Dead' Sequel?

I've got good news, bad news and good news from the James Gunn (interview) camp, who had their panel today at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors here in Rosemont, Illinois. To start with the best news of all, I'm proud to report that James Gunn's directorial debut, Slither, is a gooey blast from the past! I haven't had this much fun in a movie since The Blob remake from the '80s. Watching Slither was like watching a $10 million dollar "grown-up" Troma film- can you say f-ck yeah?! Inside you'll find a little word from James Gunn on what's next, along with what the deal is on the Dawn of the Dead sequel...

While in Chicago promotion his film Slither, which Universal Pictures will release on March 31st, James Gunn told us all a little scoop about what his plans were for his next feature film. All he could tease was "it's a film about Satan." But he also expressed that he had no interest in doing the sequel to Dawn of the Dead, while producer Eric Newman chimed in telling the audience that "as of right now there are no immediate plans for a sequel." He explained that just because Titanic could easily make a ton of money, just because you can doesn’t mean you should- and that the story just wouldn’t be any good, "a sequel to a remake of a sequel?" he jokes... and yes, everyone laughed. Maybe that's a great point...

The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America – somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived…and is growing. No one seems to notice as telephone poles become clogged with missing pet flyers, or when one of the town’s richest citizens, Grant Grant (Michael Rooker), begins to act strangely. But when farmers’ livestock turn up horribly mutilated and a young women goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) and his team, aided by Grant’s wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks), uncover the dark force laying siege to their town… and come face-to-face with an older-than-time organism intent on absorbing and devouring all life on Earth.
