Special Event: 'Sin City 3' Already Being Planned?

Last night in Hollywood big names showed up to the Archlight theater to promote the special Recut, Extended, Unrated version of Frank Miller's Sin City (review #1, #2), which hits DVD on December 13th (yes last minute shopping!). Amongst the stars to attend were Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriquez, Greg Nicotero, and even Frank Miller! Inside you can read about the special event, which includes a hint about a possible star in Grindhouse and how we WILL see Sin City 3...

Tonight was a big night in Hollywood at the Arclight Theater as Premieres and parties were going on all over the place! Bloody-Disgusting was there for a special screening of the DVD extras from Robert Rodriquez’s Sin City, while King Kong was screening for the Visual Effects Society in the next theater. And, at the upstairs bar was the annual Stanford Film Society party. Celebrities were on hand and the booze was flowing properly. As I looked around there was Kevin Smith, James Duval, Eli Roth and his favorite “Hostel” star (I feel like a **** because I don’t know her name… ) . “Feast’s” John Gulager, his lovely wife Diane Goldner, and writer Marcus Dunstan, were seen chatting it up with “Boo!” Director Anthony C. Ferrante.

At the Sin City party everywhere you looked was another big name, Tarantino, Rodriquez, Nicotero, and even Frank Miller himself were all in attendance to handle the screening and Q&A panels before and after the film. They spoke endlessly about the making of the first Sin City and then talked briefly about what we can expect for parts 2 and 3. Miller mentioned that he is still writing the films and that he has specific actor’s in mind. The sequels will be based on his “A Dame to Kill For” series. When an audience member asked about how great it must be to be “you guys” Tarentino joked, “ It doesn’t suck to be us! I would recommend it.”

The best part of the evening was seeing the special DVD features on the big screen!!! In one of the featured segment we see the entire film, sped up, without any visual FX, ALL GREENSCREEN!!! It’s amazing seeing what the film was before the talented computer guys got there grimy hands on it. There was a segment called “The Long Take”, where we see a 14-minute, no cuts, day in the life of Tarentino directing Clive Owen and Bennicio Del Toro. If you ever wanted to be on the set of a Tarentino film, this is about as close as you will get to the real thing! A fascinating study on acting and directing, and the daily working of a “real” movie. Get your copy on December 13th and check out the amazing amount of extras this expanded disk has to offer!

Lastly, as the night drew to a late close, we asked, or I should say begged and pleaded, with Rodriquez to give up some info about the upcoming “Grindhouse” feature that he and Tarentino are co-directing, but no such luck… all I can say is that Rodriquez accidentally name dropped Danny Trejo when talking about his working with him right now. But that’s almost a given, as Trejo has been in almost every Rodriquez film he has ever done.
