Wow this was on the brink of breaking out into a full blown mess, but thankfully Hatchet writer/director Adam Green sent out an emailing apologizing for the story ran on Fangoria last night. Inside you'll read what Green has to say about Cabin Fever 2 in response to the articles you'll find below this one. Take a deep breathe and sigh a sigh of relief this is over (I hope)...
Adam Green writes:
"During a HATCHET set visit by Fangoria Magazine, I was candidly asked for a status report on CABIN FEVER 2 after the Hatchet interview was over. I speculated on some theories as to why there has not been an update on the project since I turned my draft in last Fall and did not realize that my comments would be posted on line and taken so literally or seriously. I have no personal knowledge as to what exactly is going on with the project and my theories are based on the same rumors that have been circulating the internet and industry for the past year. Though I appreciate that Fangoria did choose to run my comments praising Eli Roth and Cabin Fever, I have deep regret for anything they may have quoted me on that can be interpreted as hurtful towards Eli or Lions Gate. Lions Gate has given many a young writer/director a shot in the genre business and I can only thank them for the level of integrity and understanding that they have displayed towards me since this story broke. Even more importantly, I can't thank Eli Roth enough for his comedic rebuttal towards the story and would have expected nothing less from him. Clearly I am a fan of his and the Cabin Fever story or else I never would have gotten involved with the franchise on any level. I am so glad to see that they saw the bigger picture here and realized what had happened without letting it get turned into an episode of WWE Smackdown.
The fact of the matter is that there is no real proof that my script was ever scheduled for production at this point, Eli Roth and Lions Gate have a GREAT relationship as far as I understand, and the project is not tied up in "legal" matters but is on hold for reasons beyond my knowledge.
I want everyone to understand that I am brand spanking new to this and the attention I have garnered over HATCHET is beyond anything I ever expected. I do not blame Fangoria for reporting what they chose to report because ultimately it is my fault for not understanding when I was actually being interviewed and when I was shooting the breeze with the reporter. I was still just so shocked that they were even on my set."
