Subversion refers to an attempt to transform the established social order and its structures of power, authority, and hierarchy.
When I was presented with UK tech metal band Subversion, I had to look up the definition of their name. But once I understand the concept, I knew that I wanted to hear these guys’ thoughts on horror and films that they believe have reshaped the playing field.
So we got vocalist Jay Shields to put together five films that he believes have done precisely that.

Horror films are something I’ve loved since a young age, I was introduced to the world of horror by my older brother Julian, who let me watch Aliens when I was just 8 years old and since then I’ve been hooked, mostly to science fiction horror, but I do love a bit of gore.
To pick films that buck the trend of horror is tough, it’s almost to say, well, who started those trends. Which films are the kings of horror and who the contenders for the crown? But if we’re looking for trend-buckers then I’m going to focus on some of the modern films which I think really did stand out from the crowd.
