New Creature Looms In ‘Dark Was the Night’
Caliber Media Co., Sundial Pictures and Preferred Content have started production on the talked-about thriller script, Dark Was the Night with lensing taking place this coming Sunday, February 19th.
Kevin Durand (Real Steel, Robin Hood) and Lukas Haas (Contraband, Inception) will star in and battle with a never-before-seen monster in director Jack Heller‘s upcoming horror feature. The script, from Tyler Hisel, appeared on the 2009 Black List of best un-produced scripts, a rarity for the monster genre, under the title “The Trees”.
“ ‘Dark Was the Night’ centers on the isolated town of Maiden Woods, where a nearby logging company has disrupted the balance of the life in the woods. From the frozen forest, an evil will emerge and threaten the local citizens; their only hope being the local Sheriff and his trusted Deputy.”
Rounding out the cast are Sabina Gadecki, Heath Freeman and Nick Damici (Stake Land).
“Respectful to the success of vampire and zombie movies, we were immediately attracted to Tyler’s all-new monster mythology,” said producer Dallas Sonnier.
Fresh off her starring role in the first season of Prime Video’s hit series “Fallout,” Ella Purnell (“Yellowjackets”) has booked a role in the upcoming horror-comedy The Scurry.
Screen Daily reports this morning that Ella Purnell has joined the cast of the now-filming horror comedy from director Craig Roberts, taking on “an avalanche of deranged squirrels.”
The site notes, “Ella Purnell will play the leading role of a park attendant who must use her unique skills and strength to survive a band of killer squirrels.”
“The film follows two pest controllers called to a country park café to investigate a routine vermin problem, only for an avalanche of deranged squirrels to descend at nightfall, wreaking mayhem on the staff and visitors in the park.”
Rhys Ifans (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Paapa Essiedu (Men), and Antonia Thomas (“The Good Doctor”) have all been previously announced to star in the upcoming movie.
Tim Telling wrote the screenplay for The Scurry.
