Warners Falls In Love With ‘The Stand’ Writer
Vulture reports that Stephen King’s The Stand, about survivors of a chemically weaponized super-flu, is now being penned by screenwriter David Kajganich after Kajganich wowed Warner Bros. with another recent King adaptation of the 1986 horror classic It – which, like The Stand, is being produced by Roy Lee and Doug Davison.
They also note that the last produced outbreak drama Kadjanich wrote for WB was 2007’s underperforming Nicole Kidman vehicle The Invasion. Let’s hope this goes better.
Ben Affleck is directing The Stand, based on the 1978 story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters (such as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping story lines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg. 
NEON has been playing the long game with their cryptic marketing campaign for Longlegs the past few months, but today brings a more traditional official trailer for the upcoming film.
Longlegs heads to theaters on July 12. Watch the new trailer below, which makes the film’s storyline a bit more clear while still preserving all the creepy mysteries at its dark heart.
The upcoming serial killer horror movie marks the return of director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel). Nicolas Cage stars alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.
Longlegs is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers,” and early reviews have favorably compared the film to the classic ’90s thriller The Silence of the Lambs.
In the film, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”
Alicia Witt (“The Walking Dead”) and Blair Underwood (“American Crime Story”) also star.
The film is rated “R” for “Bloody violence, disturbing images and some language.”
Producers are Nicolas Cage along with his production company Saturn Films (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Pig), Dan Kagan (Significant Other), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious), Dave Caplan (The End We Start From) and Chris Ferguson (Child’s Play).
