See Derek Mears as a Zombie in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Trailer!
I really, really, really hated the previous two Pirates of the Caribbean films, but I loved the first so much that it’s hard not to be excited for a fourth — especially with the promise of zombies. Speaking of the undead, Yahoo! premiered the trailer today for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides that carries said promised zombies, one of which you might be quite familiar with: Derek Mears. Best know in the horror community as the newest Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th, Mears gets the living dead spotlight in the below trailer as a character named “Master At Arms”. Zombies, mermaids and pirates? I’ll take to these seas on May 20th.

‘Backrooms’ Just Passed $200 Million at the Worldwide Box Office
After a record-breaking debut weekend, A24 and director Kane Parsons’ Backrooms was already a massive success story, and the liminal horror movie just passed another milestone.
Backrooms scared up an estimated $25.9 million at the U.S. box office in its second weekend, finding itself in the #3 spot behind Scary Movie and Masters of the Universe. That’s a 70% drop from the film’s massive opening weekend total of $81.4 million, which was expected.
The current domestic total for Backrooms is now $135 million, while Backrooms just passed $200 million at the worldwide box office. The current worldwide take is $212.6 million!
Backrooms is already the second highest grossing horror movie of 2026, and it’s now nipping at the heels of Obsession to claim the #1 spot. Obsession‘s worldwide total is $224.7 million at the time of this article being written, while the domestic total is currently $152.1 million.
A huge part of the story here is that the production budget for Backrooms was a reported $10 million, the kind of budget that often doesn’t result in $200+ million movies. This one was a massive success literally from the first Thursday night of release, and everything from this point forward is just adding more and more profit onto the pile for Blumhouse and A24.
