Alien Plants/Space Aliens Invade in ‘The Day of the Triffids’
Deadline is reporting that Mandate Pictures, on behalf of Sam Raimi, has won a bidding war for the rights to produce The Day of the Triffids, with Raimi in line to direct (as it was is favorite film as a child). A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone that looks at it. As it was such a beautiful sight, most people were watching, and as a consequence, 99% of the population go blind. In the original novel, this chaos results in the escape of some Triffids: experimental plants that are capable of moving themselves around and attacking people. In the 1962 film, however, the Triffids are not experimental plants. Instead they are space aliens whose spores have arrived in an earlier meteor shower. Raimi and Tapert will board the producer roster, joining Michael Preger, Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford, and Mark Gordon.

‘Rebel Moon – Part One: Director’s Cut’ Rated “R” for Brutal Bloody Violence & Graphic Nudity
Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic Rebel Moon is now streaming in full on Netflix, with last year’s Part One: A Child of Fire followed by this year’s Part Two: The Scargiver.
But the Rebel Moon saga is far from over, because Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cuts of both movies are coming to Netflix. And they’re said to each be around ONE HOUR LONGER.
Of particular note, the Rebel Moon Director’s Cuts will be rated “R,” promising the bloody violence that wasn’t found in the PG-13 versions of the two movies currently on Netflix.
For starters, Rebel Moon – Part One: Director’s Cut has been rated “R” for…
“Brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.”
We don’t yet have a release date for these Director’s Cuts. Stay tuned.
From Zack Snyder, the filmmaker behind 300, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead, comes Rebel Moon, an epic science-fantasy event decades in the making.
When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge.
As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.
Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Sofia Boutella, Stuart Martin, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang star alongside Michiel Huisman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, and Alfonso Herrera.
