October is here and it means good things for horror fans. This week features a sweet collection of films including: The Exorcist, Grindhouse, 2001 Maniacs, Hard Candy, Splice, The Hiuman Centipede and High Tension. For the bad horror lover the personification of terribleness is also being loosed on the public in Blu-ray form: Troll 2. 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS (Blu-ray/DVD) – Sony
Almost a year has passed since Barrow Alaska’s population was decimated by vampires. When a group of lost souls offers her a chance to exact revenge upon the vampire queen, Stella joins their mission to stop evil from striking again.

A murderous local legend proves frighteningly real in this independent slasher flick detailing the bloody exploits of the killer known as The Black Mountain Madman, and his crazed sidekick Pillowcase.
THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (Blu-Ray) – Lionsgate
In October of 1994, three student film makers disappeared in the woods near Burkittesville, Maryland. One year later, their footage was found.
MICAH SAYS: Significantly better than the Bare Wench Project. I can safely say this after experiencing both films.
DESTINED TO BE INGESTED – Midnight Releasing
Anna and Tom were a down and out couple — until one day, their fortunes changed. One lucky lottery ticket later they found themselves living the good life, cruising the South Pacific with their fancy new friends, enjoying the essential three C s of luxury living: Champagne, Caviar and Cocaine. But when the group of yuppies lose their way, and are marooned on a mysterious jungle island, their charmed lives suddenly become a string of gruesome deaths.
DON’T LOOK IN THE CELLAR – Fat Cat DVD
A group of college students decide to spend Halloween night at an abandoned asylum to party and also to research the history of the asylum for a class project. It becomes a race to see if the students can find a way out and discover the truth behind the asylum’s secrets before they are all brutally murdered.
THE EXORCIST (Extended Director’s Cut) (Blu-ray/DVD) – Warner Home Video
Controversial and popular from the moment it opened, The Exorcist marks its historic Blu-ray premiere in a 2-Disc Edition featuring Stunning Hi-Def Presentations of the Original 1973 Theatrical Version and the 2000 Extended Director’s Cut. The frightening and realistic tale of an innocent girl inhabited by a terrifying entity, her mother’s frantic resolve to save her and two priests–one doubt-ridden, the other a rock of faith–joined in battling ultimate evil always leaves viewers breathless.
MICAH SAYS: Yep, if there ever was a must-have Blu-ray.
THE FARM – Midnight Releasing
Mickey and Juliet, a young couple on the run from a vicious gang of drug dealers arrive at a deserted farm in the Irish countryside near Cork, aiming to flee to France the following day. As he and Juliet prepare to leave the farm the next morning, Mickey resolves to kill the farm’s only inhabitant spurring an abrupt turn, and a deadly love triangle- involving tears, poisoning, torture and skinned lambs.

HARD CANDY (Blu-ray) – Lionsgate
A mature 14-year old girl (Ellen Page) meets a charming 32-year old photographer on the Internet. Suspecting that he is a pedophile, she goes to his home in an attempt to expose him.
HIGH TENSION (Blu-ray) – Lionsgate
Two college friends, Marie and Alexa, encounter loads of trouble (and blood) while on vacation at Alexa’s parents’ country home when a mysterious killer invades their quiet getaway.
THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE (Blu-ray/DVD) – IFC Films
The plot is diabolically simple: two stranded American tourists are given shelter by a famed German doctor (a maniacally intense Dieter Laser) who made his fortune surgically separating conjoined twins. Now his mad genius is pushing the doctor to do the reverse. He tells the women that they will be surgically attached to a Japanese businessman mouth to buttocks, one after the other and thus will be born a new creature: the human centipede!
MICAH SAYS: One word in a German accent: Rohypnol.
OPEN WATER/OPEN WATER 2: ADRIFT (Blu-ray) – Lionsgate
Based on the true story of two scuba divers accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after their tour boat left them. Part 2 is also based on true events, Adrift tells of six long-time friends who gather for an ill-fated celebration aboard a luxurious yacht.
SISTERS (Blu-ray) – Image Entertainment
Reporter Grace Collier (Chloe Sevigny) witnesses a woman committing a bizarre murder in this disturbing shocker based on Brian De Palma’s 1973 classic.When police fail to find a corpse or any trace of the crime, Collier undertakes her own investigation that leads her to a mental asylum and the discovery of the mysterious woman’s once-conjoined twin. Stephen Rea also stars as the twins’ controlling and controversial doctor in a chilling look at the deep and sometimes psychotic bond between sisters.

SPLICE (Blu-ray/DVD – Warner Home Video

MICAH SAYS: Anyone else think this movie went way too far in the last 20 minutes or so? Or not far enough?
TROLL 2 (Blu-ray/DVD) – MGM
A young child is terrified to discover that a planned family trip is to be haunted by vile plant-eating monsters out of his worst nightmare.
MICAH SAYS: Words are incapable of describing just how bad this film is. I love every second of it and will proudly display on my DVD/Blu-ray shelf.
