‘Survival’ of the Horror In Your House
This week’s edition of Horror in Your House is led by the rather lackluster Survival of the Dead. A&E Home Entertainment is releasing five horror films from the Lifetime Network’s horror catalog. Really, they have a horror catalog. In other news, a couple nice triple features are being released, one featuring the excellent gore comedy, Big Bad Wolf. After her boyfriend vanishes following routine outpatient surgery, Mary Walsh (Brittany Murphy) becomes increasingly frantic. Mary is then diagnosed as unstable by the staff psychiatrist. Against the odds, she must not only find her missing boyfriend, but also prove her sanity.
DEVIL’S DIARY – A&E Home Video
Two small-town teens find the “Devil’s Diary,” a book that psychically manifests any evil thoughts written in it. The teens use the book for exact revenge on those who have wronged them.
MICAH SAYS: Who knew the Lifetime television channel was making horror movies? Not I! You can take your pick of woman’s themed horror flicks this week as A&E Home Entertainment is releasing five films. The real question, why would you do that to yourself?
DIE-NER (GET IT?) – Osiris Entertainment
Horror and comedy combine in this tale of a sociopathic killer that has a unique problem – his victims won’t stay dead. As the bodies pile up, the killer must determine what to do with his undead “friends” before all hell breaks loose.
DORIAN GRAY (Blu-Ray/DVD) – National Entertainment Media
After inheriting a house in London, young Dorian gray falls victim to a life of debauchery and violence. Dorian eventually trades his soul for eternal youth, but is the cost too great?
FEAR OF THE DARK & BIG BAD WOLF & GANGS OF DEAD – Screen Media
A compilation of three horror films on one DVD featuring the cult hit, Big Bad Wolf.
THE GATHERING – A&E Home Video
A surgeon with a seemingly perfect life witnesses his teenage daughter’s descent into rebellion. This is no ordinary rebellion though, his daughter may have been involved with a violent sect of witches determined to take over the world. Can he save his daughter before it’s too late?
GODKILLER: WALK AMONG US – Halo 8
Based on the comic book from writer/director Matt Pizzolo comes a tale of young boy’s journey through a post nuke-wasteland (populated by fallen Gods, organ-stealing hookers, and technowizards) as he searches for a new heart for his dying sister. The film features voice work from the legendary Lance Henriksen and scream queen Tiffany Shepis.
THE HAUNTING OF SORORITY ROW – A&E Home Video
Samantha Willows (Leighton Meester) is a bright-eyed college freshman ready to endure the often-humiliating traditions of pledge week if it means being accepted into Delta Phi Theta. But her enthusiasm turns to dread when she begins to sense something sinister about the sorority house and some of its sisters, who appear to be sharing a closely guarded secret.
HUSH LITTLE BABY – A&E Home Video
Jamie Ashford (Victoria Pratt) suffered a devastating loss when her first child drowned. Now just a year after her daughter’s death and despite taking precautions, Jamie is surprised to find out she’s carrying another child. After a difficult pregnancy and birth Jamie begins to suspect that her newborn Caitlin is not the sweet baby she appears to be.
KING OF ZOMBIES – Film Chest
1940’s Poverty Row classic about a government agent searching for an admiral whose plane went down somewhere in the Pacific. While searching, the agent’s own plane crashes on a mysterious island full of zombies and Nazi conspirators.

On a small island off the coast of Delaware, live two families locked in a struggle for power and control over the fate of the undead. The O’Flynns approach the zombie plague with a shoot-to-kill attitude. The Muldoons feel that the zombies should be quarantined and kept “alive,” in hopes that a solution will be discovered. For both families, existence on Plum Island is a nightmarish world where humans are the minority and zombies rule.

TITANIC 2 – Asylum Entertainment
On the anniversary of the original voyage, a modern luxury liner christened “Titanic 2,” follows the path of its namesake. But when a tsunami hurls an iceberg into the new ship’s path, the passengers and crew must fight to avoid a similar fate.
MICAH SAYS: I heard James Cameron directed this movie during his lunch breaks from Avatar.

Triple feature DVD including Vampires: Out for Blood, a film that harnesses the star power of both Lance Henriksen and Kevin Dillon (Entourage).
Scream Factory brought Frank LaLoggia’s 1988 Halloween movie Lady in White to Blu-ray several years back, and now Vinegar Syndrome gives the film a 4K Ultra HD upgrade.

1962. Nine-year-old Frankie Scarlatti enjoys a homespun childhood in a rustic Western New York town. The entire community gets into the spirit of Halloween, but then two bullies prank Frankie by locking him in his school cloakroom, leaving him trapped for the night. Alone and afraid, his slumber is interrupted when the ghost of a little girl appears, and Frankie witnesses the specter of her murder by an unseen assailant. Later, while recovering at home, the girl’s ghost appears to him again. With help from his older brother, Frankie begins investigating the circumstances of her death. He soon discovers that her murder was one of several unsolved crimes connected to a local child-killer. As the town’s bucolic veneer fades and long-buried secrets and tensions bubble to the surface, all of the clues to the mystery seem to point towards a huge mansion inhabited by a reclusive woman known as “The Lady in White.”
A nostalgia-driven ghost story wrapped within an intricate murder mystery and coming-of-age drama, writer-director-composer Frank LaLoggia’s passion project Lady in White remains one of the most beautiful and original American horror films of the 1980s. Featuring acclaimed actors Alex Rocco (The Godfather), Len Cariou (Executive Decision), and Sydney Lassick (Carrie, The Unseen), it boasts the first starring role by Lukas Haas (Mars Attacks, Inception) as well as breathtaking photography by Academy Award® winner Russell Carpenter (True Lies, The Lawnmower Man). Paul Lê wrote here on Bloody Disgusting back in 2023, “Over the years, fans have described this film as gateway horror, but they liken it more to The Watcher in the Woods than, say, Hocus Pocus or Casper. There are chilling moments that warrant its PG-13 rating.”
