Josh Hutcherson has signed on to topline and exec produce the teen horror-comedy pic Detention, first announced here by Bloody Disgusting. The indie project, which also stars Dane Cook (the most unfunny comedian in America), marks the second feature for helmer Joseph Kahn, who is best known for directing hit musicvideos such as Eminem's "Without Me" (more on that here). The story centers on teens who must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life. Kahn and Mark Palermo penned the script. Hutcherson will shoot the $10 million Detention in L.A. next month before seguing to New Line's sequel of Journey to the Center of the Earth in October. He was one of the finalists to play Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot. Kahn directed Torque for Warner Bros.
Dane Cook is a pretty good actor when he's allowed to tackle his roles seriously, but as a comic, I just don't find his shit funny. Everyway he's made fun of on The Simpsons, South Park or Family Guy is spot on. And regarding this movie, it seems like it's a remake of the Urban Gothic episode entitled "Be Movie", which is generally the same thing. A slasher from some horror flick, coming to life(crossing over from movie to reality) and killing high school kids while they are locked in school.
I agree with "magnaderalpha". As an actor Dane Cook is okay...but his stand up stuff just isn't that funny. Sure, I've chuckled or cracked a grin, but he's not funny. This movie is an "iffy" for me.
Dammit I just started writing my movie "Detention". About completely different high schoolers all getting detention on the same day. A serial killer on the loose breaks into the school, kills the teachers, and starts picking the kids off one by one. They must put aside their differences to stop the unstoppable. Horror/Comedy's i really don't like most of the time. Probably the only one that i really loved was Trick r' Treat... On Dane Cook, sometimes i find him funny, sometimes i don't, i look at this way, hes one of those guys whose the funny crazy guy out of a group of friends... but i don't think he has that gift to be funny...
It's good to see Josh Hutcherson getting more roles. I know it's a "kid's movie", but he helped make Bridge To Terebithia a fantastic movie adaption of one of my favorite youngster books.
I love Dane Cook. He's funny. And Josh Hutcherson? He's awesome. Cute too. Hey, if cougars got to find Taylor Lautner attractive when he wasn't 18 yet then so can I with this guy! lol. This movie sounds good to me though. Not usually into horror comedies but I like the idea for this.
Dane Cook is a flaming retard. Only bros who watch MMA and drink Natural Ice, while listening to Atreyu and Five Finger Death Punch think Dane Cook is funny.

Unfunniest comedian in America? He's pretty bad, but I wouldn't go that far, there's much worse. Blue Collar Comedy, Carlos (THIEF) Mencia and that hack Jeff (RACISMS OK BECAUSE I USE PUPPETS!) Dunham.
