Bloody Disgusting learned today that Lightning Entertainment has wrapped principal photography last week on the highly anticipated sequel, Quarantine 2: Terminal in Atlanta, GA. Directed by John Pogue, and starring Mercedes Masohn and Josh Cooke, Terminal is a sequel to the box office success Quarantine, Screen Gems' remake of the Spanish-language horror [REC]. The only details revealed thus far is that the sequel will head into an airport, this morning we got our hands on the official synopsis. Check it below!
"In QUARANTINE, an apartment building in Los Angeles was quarantined by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), trapping the frightened residents inside as a deadly mutant virus turned the residents into rabid killers. QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL picks up later that night at LAX, as passengers board a flight to Nashville. When a passenger becomes violently ill with a mysterious rabies-like virus, the plane makes an emergency landing at a large metropolitan airport. Jenny (Mercedes Masohn, CBS’s "Three Rivers"), a heroic yet inexperienced flight attendant, takes charge of the safety of her passengers. Relieved when a swarm of heavily equipped emergency vehicles, police units and the CDC arrive, Jenny and the passengers soon discover that they have been quarantined and are now trapped. Desperate to escape, Jenny enlists the help of one of the surviving passengers, a kindergarten teacher, Henry (Josh Cooke, A Fork In The Road, I Love you Man), to devise a plan to survive."
"I was a big admirer of REC and the work that Dowdles did on QUARANTINE, so I was thrilled when given the opportunity to write and direct the sequel", says Director John Pogue. "QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL will expand the mythology behind the first film for fans and ramp up the twisted thrills, building on that universal fear of being trapped on an airplane."
Special effects make-up designer Rob Hall (The Crazies, Quarantine) helps to bring the horror to life. QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL is written and directed by John Poque (The Skulls, Ghost Ship) and is produced by Lightning Entertainment’s Marc Bienstock (Pathology, Preacher’s Kid). ABOUT LIGHTNING ENTERTAINMENT
I like that Quarantine is branching off in a different direction than REC 2, especially since I know some people who weren't very happy with 2's twist.
I saw Quarantine BEFORE I saw REC and I liked Quarantine but I have to tell you, after seeing REC and REC 2, I have absolutely no desire to watch Quarantine again. REC is superior is every single aspect.
its bilfy, that's exactly what i thought too! lol. i'm very excited for this but i hope it's just not them trapped on a plane for the entire movie. that will get old really fast. if they take it out into the actual airport terminal (which is what the title suggests) then it gives the story some room to breath.
like some of you already pointed out - it's good they're not remaking rec 2 too and going in a different direction. still hope it's documentary style though
"Terminal is a sequel to the box office success Quarantine,"
If it was such a success then why is this going straight to DVD? lol. Anyways, I liked the first Quarantine so maybe this will be good.
p!$$ed me off what they did with remaking REC, and the advertising was horrible...showing everyone the end of the movie before they even sit down to watch the film. NICE! i thinking going their own direction is a good idea
This actually sounds watchable. I loved the original versions of rec and hated the us remake, but on the other hand I only watched it for about a half hour. I will be looking forward to this one.
I thought rec 2 was awesome, but it's great that they are taking it in an all new direction. Does anyone know when they are planning to release it? The end of 2011?
im glad they are taking it in a new direction. we dont want them ruining rec 2 like they did with rec 1! nothing will even come close to the orginals. cant wait for rec 3 and 4! yes they have been announced!
I am looking forward to Quarantine 2. I loved [Rec] and Quarantine and think they agree both awesome movies. I wanted a Quarantine sequel and I hope I'm not disappointed.
