Patrick Lussier Builds Vampire Defense for ‘In Darkness’
Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively today that one of Patrick Lussier’s potential future projects could be a new thriller entitled In Darkness. Penned by Rowdy Herrington (director of Road House), the intriguing pic follows a young, ambitious female public defender who must try and get an acquittal for a man who claims he killed his wife to save her soul; the shocker being that he claims his wife was a vampire. But the best defense – proving that vampires really exist – puts the attorney’s life in danger. Patrick Lussier, who is “in talks” for the project, is in the middle of delivering Drive Angry 3D to Summit Entertainment for release on February 11. Lussier also directed the Todd Farmer penned My Bloody Valentine 3D and was collaborating with Farmer on Halloween 3D.

When nurse Julia finds herself trapped inside the home of her dementia patient, she begins to suspect things are not what they seem; something demonic is seeping through the cracks of this old home. Trapped and with nowhere to turn, Julia soon finds herself in battle to rid the house of this evil before it is too late.

“This film depicts the most harrowing 90 minutes of our protagonist’s life, and I felt that the most visceral way to really feel this was to do a single-shot film,” O’Brien previously teased. “We are with her every step and misstep she takes – through the unraveling of the mystery to the horror of her discovery. It’s a fun, twisty roller-coaster ride that puts a new spin on exorcisms.”
Bury the Devil is the first installment in a planned trilogy. The prequel, Bury the Devil: Origin, is already in development with O’Brien returning to the helm.
O’Brien produces along with Philip Kalin-Hajdu (The Sacrifice Game) and Benoit Beaulieu (Turbo Kid).
