Anchor Bay Gains ‘Altitude’ for U.S. and U.K.
Easily near the top of my list of “most anticipated” upcoming horror films is Kaare Andrews’ Altitude, an H.P. Lovecraftian thriller that takes to the sky with hotties Jessica Lowndes (Autopsy, The Haunting of Molly Hartley) and Julianna Guill (Friday the 13th, My Super Psycho Sweet 16 and the forthcoming The Apparition). It was announced today that Anchor Bay has landed U.S. and U.K. rights, so takeoff shouldn’t be delayed too much longer. Read on for the skinny.
Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired supernatural thriller Altitude for distribution in the US, the UK and Australia/New Zealand on the Anchor Bay Films label.
Directed by award-winning graphic novelist Kaare Andrews and written by Paul A Birkett (The Keeper), Altitude follows a group of teens on a weekend plane trip that turns into a battle with a supernatural force.
Jessica Lowndes (90210), Julianna Guill (Friday the 13th), Ryan Donowho (Bandslam), Landon Liboiron (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Jake Weary (As the World Turns) star.
“Anchor Bay has an outstanding reputation for releasing films that provide audiences with the thrills and chills they crave and Altitude is a work that delivers both in a very fresh new way,” said Kevin Kasha, senior vice president, acquisitions, Anchor Bay Films.
Executive producers Gary Hamilton and Mike Gabrawy said: “Anchor Bay understands the horror genre better than any other company and they have a great team who are a pleasure to work with; we know we have the best partner in the business to bring Altitude to a wide audience.”
Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark added: “Altitude is a film that seems destined to fly high with anyone who likes a good scare. Just like The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity, this is a new type of high concept thriller which is loaded with attitude and style.”
Altitude was produced through Ian Birkett at Escape Factory, Rob Merilees and Dave Valleau at Foundation Features, and Gary Hamilton and Mike Gabrawy at Arclight Films. The deal was negotiated by Kevin Kasha, James Shapiro and Richard Turner for Anchor Bay and Gary Hamilton and Mike Gabrawy of Arclight.
You may end up rethinking karaoke nights with your friends after you watch the upcoming horror-comedy Bad Karaoke, set to World Premiere on Sunday, August 30 as part of Tubi FrightFest in London. You can preview the film with the official trailer below.

In the film, “When wedding band keyboardist Emily discovers an old karaoke machine in the back of a dive bar, she thinks it will lead to a fun-filled night of singing and bonding with her bandmates. Unfortunately, this karaoke machine seems to have a thirst for blood.”
“When the singing begins, so does the bloodshed.”
“When an excellent performance allows someone to be spared by the machine, the crew think they’ve figured out how to finally beat it. Proven almost immediately wrong, it takes more horrifying deaths and a visit from a mysterious stranger to realize they may have a chance at survival after all.”
Lexi Underwood (“Cruel Summer”), Case Walker (Monster High: The Movie), and Kat Cunning (Purple Hearts) star in the upcoming horror-comedy Bad Karaoke.
Chris Lightbody and Spencer Yaras wrote the screenplay.
“We were inspired to make this film after years of painful karaoke performances nearly put us in an early grave,” the directors said in a statement. “We found that many people have had near-death karaoke experiences and we wanted to play with that idea, as well as say something profound about the state of new music. But instead, we made Bad Karaoke.”
