News Brief: George A. Romero Plans Back-to-Back 'Dead' Finale

Hinging solely on the success of Survival of the Dead (in theaters May 28 and now on VOD), iconic filmmaker George A. Romero tells Bloody Disgusting's BC exclusively that there is an end in sight for his 42 year zombie franchise. The plan is to film 2 more "Dead" features back-to-back, each focusing on a minor character from Diary of the Dead. Survival of the Dead focuses on Alan Van Sprang's "Sarge 'Nicotine' Crocket", a hard-headed Army vet featured in Diary. Watch for the full interview soon and click here to get all the info on Survival of the Dead, Romero's 6th zombie pic.

Someone just needs to kill Romero himself and film it. Enough of his tired storytelling.

wow! SURVIVAL is cringe-worthy terrible. how can he keep making movies that keep getting worse with each movie?! i will give him the benefit of the doubt on these last 2 back2back movies, though. hopefully he can salvage what he destroyed with DIARY and SURVIVAL.

dam, 42 years of the zombies holy shit! didnt think there was THAT many. shit......wonder after these last two zombie back 2 backs if he will retire from doing movies or do something else horror?

There were some pretty good scenes in Survival, but overall it wasn't very good. That coming from a huge Romero fan. I enjoyed Land of the Dead and Diary was ok... but Survival was well below average. My thoughts on Romero are that he was ahead of his time for a decade or so (with 'Night of' and 'Dawn of') and then time caught up and surpassed him very quickly.

Someone can take you out too Mr. Alphonso then we can have our sequel. As to George he can keep making films forever IMO.

Mr. Alphonso your an idiot. Romero is a legend ,and your not. He can do whatever the fuck he wants. You don't have to watch.

I seriously would love to see the characters from Day of the dead return. If only there was a true sequal to that film that retained the same atmosphere and sound, zombie make up and of course the over the top characters.

Why does he want to ruin the franchise? Hopefully he goes back to his roots and tries very hard with these two efforts. Lay off the CG please!

I lost faith in Romero after Land of the Dead. Have not watched one of his "Dead" movies since.

Night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, and Day of the dead are classics, love them. I also enjoyed Land (kinda underrated in my opinion), and I really liked Diary. But I think its time for George to take a break. i would like to see him make another film like martin. Survival of the Dead is definitely the weakest film, and I understand why many dont like it. But for some reason I did. It just had a kinda of odd charm to it. Also great gore and I loved the social commentary to it and the ending was good. so yea I would rather George stop with the zombies for a while, but at the same time you gotta give a hell of a lot of respect for being his age and still doing what he loves to do.

Night = Awesome Dawn = His Best Day = OK Land = Fun Diary = Shit Survival = OK Let's see what he's got for the last two. You're not forced to watch them.

as much as i despised SURVIVAL, i REALLY like LAND (and the other before Land). so i know George still has it in him to make a good zombie movie. i really hope he tries like he's never tried before on these last 2. how do you think he'll end this? a cure or something?

Wormwood
7:18pm, May 11, 2010

Maybe he's saving his best for last? As far as Im concerned if there are zombies on film, i will watch it. If Romero makes a movie, i will watch it.

i just realized it says "Hinging solely on the success of Survival...". i don't think this will be a "success" (whatever that means in $).

Awesome! I'll see anything Romero does.

uggghh I cant take this anymore...I love Romero but this is just too much Land was good :) Diary was "ehh ok" Survival was just "shit" i dont know what to think of the man...its like if all of the sudden you began hating on Santa Claus or something...

Necroskinless
8:56pm, May 11, 2010

Man, I still really don't get why everyone hates Diary so much. I remember seeing Land opening night and feeling raped of the money I spent on the ticket. Land of the Dead is still one of my personal biggest opening night disappointments. Diary scaled the concept back down enough to the point where every scene echoed dread and isolation, and I actually really cared about the characters. I still haven't seen Survival though, so I can't REALLY say that another pair of Romero Dead flicks are justified, but I'll give him the benefit of a doubt so long as he keeps the project under his own complete control.

I knew he'd make two more. Then he'd have two sets of 4 DEAD FILMS. If he makes two more, literally finishing the "storyline" then I wonder if he'll use his own DAY idea, where a cure is found. I haven't seen SURVIVAL, I heard they were looking for one, but I don't know what happens.

Grime pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly. And in reference to this particular news piece: please make it stop.

Wow. I thought you guys were horror fans. Turns out your just douchebags. Romero should stop? Haha! Morons. If you knew anything then you'd know that he usually gets in a slum and then comes back stronger. If it were up to you guys then we wouldn't have Dawn of the Dead after a few lackluster movies after Night..

Please George, JUST STOP!!!!
