Updates on Platinum Dunes Projects: ‘Birds’, ‘Butcherhouse’ and More
During our interview with Brad Fuller regarding the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake, we got him to give us a few details on some of Platinum Dunes’ upcoming projects, including the remake of the 1987 Fred Dekker cult classic Monster Squad, The Birds the Untitled Ouija Project and The Butcherhouse Chronicles. Read on for the skinny on all of them and tell us which you’d like to see the most.
Producer Brad Fuller on the Monster Squad and The Birds remakes:
“We’re all systems go on `Monster Squad’. We’re meeting with writers every day on that, trying to pick a writer to write that…’The Birds’ we’re still trying to figure out.”
On The Butcherhouse Chronicles:
“`Butcherhouse Chronicles’ right now feels like it’s just kind of…I think that we have a great script, but it doesn’t feel like there’s anything happening on that right now.”
On their Untitled Ouija Project:
“`Ouija’ isn’t really a horror movie per se, it’s definitely more of a big action-adventure movie along the lines of…I gotta be careful what I compare it to. But you know, it’s like a big action-adventure movie. And that script…I’ve read a couple pages of it, it seems good. I think we’re getting the full script in the next month. And that’s a very exciting project for it, cause it’s a much bigger movie, and it gives us an opportunity to try something we haven’t done before…There are definitely horror elements, because it’s about Ouija and what happens from an Ouija board, but it’s a much bigger film. I would call it an action-adventure with horror elements.”
Why is The Grudge listed as TBA on Platinum Dunes’ Wikipedia page? [Assuming it means The Grudge 4.]
“I have no idea. I’m not doing anything with `The Grudge’. It’s weird, I just got off the phone with Roy Lee, I thought he’s doing `The Grudge’, but we’re not doing `The Grudge.’”

‘Mockbuster’ Exclusive Clip Reveals the Chaos of Making a Dinosaur Movie For The Asylum
Out today in select theaters and on digital platforms is heartfelt and playful documentary Mockbuster, which sees a director cold call a studio and ask to helm a lost-world dinosaur epic.
Inexplicably, they say yes.
Our exclusive clip below highlights both the comedic nature of this bizarre scenario as well as the pressures of shooting dino feature The Land That Time Forgot in a mere six days, with no real feature experience.
A dino attack scene causes friction on set in this scene.
In the documentary, “A struggling filmmaker’s opportunity collides with chaos and compromise when Sharknado’s notorious studio, The Asylum, invites him to direct a ‘mockbuster.’ With six days, a micro budget, and mounting pressure, Mockbuster is a comedic, behind-the-scenes documentary exploring the balance between low-budget filmmaking and creative ambition.”
More than just an inside look at filmmaking via low-budget film studio The Asylum, it doubles as one man’s pursuit of his dreams to charming, humorous effect.
“Mockbuster is a documentary about my own journey, but it’s also a love letter to one of the last grindhouses still functioning in Hollywood. We get to meet the characters and creators of some of the most infamous (and most hated) B-movies of the last few decades. People who make movies purely for profit – no pretension, no artistry, just monsters, C-listers, and chaos. A film that both genre fans and cinephiles can enjoy. But Mockbuster isn’t just about filmmaking, it’s about losing sight of your dreams, and reclaiming them in your own twisted way,” Director Anthony Frith said in a statement.
From Executive Producer and famed documentarian David Farrier, Mockbuster opens in select theaters and on digital platforms beginning July 10.
