Casting is underway for AMC's "The Walking Dead" TV series as Jon Bernthal ("Eastwick", Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian) was announced to be playing Grimes' partner and friend Shane in the Frank Darabont directed pilot episode. Adding to the story, Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively that Jonny Lee Miller (Hackers, Dracula 2000, "Eli Stone") is the frontrunner (in talks) to play "Rick Grimes", a police officer who leads a group of zombie survivors in search of a safe place to live during the apocalypse. As mentioned earlier, shooting begins this May on the pilot with hopes of it turning into an ongoing series. Those of you who are fans of AMC's "Mad Men" know exactly how good this could be.
Wow. Never imagined the guy from Hackers doing this. I still say if they can't get Timothy Olyphant then Mark Pellegrino would work better. Still, at least its not Jamie Bamber.
holy shit! i always figured TWD would be rumored to be a movie and then we'd never hear anything else about it. But a weekly network series? i'll take it! however, i do question their choice for Rick. :-/
I can see Miller working as Rick.
Rick's not a big tough badass in the beginning, he's a homely, small town cop. It's his trials and tribulations that over a period of time that weather him and turn him into this.
It's called a character arc. Hell, I mean look at Walt Goggins in season 1 of The Shield, he looks like a little weasel, by s7? Badass weasel. Same for Ronie. Weasel, then Badass. A character arc.
why is everyone geting a hard-on for this mini-movie/series. the comic is the worst thing ive ever read if you take out the zombies you have a realy bad soap opera
Ok, I'll ignore the ignorant comment above as it literally blew my brain out of my skull, and I will say I can see this working. I still prefer Mark (Pelligrino) but if you look at his work (and not some of the aweful things it has been attached to) then you'll see why he's a frontrunner for this. He's very talented, and I wouldn't be pissed about this, but I still prefer Mark.
Not sure how I feel about him, I don't think I can picture him in the role.
I would have prefered Jamie Bamber, as he can do the action stuff and the drama, but I guess he's working in the UK, so he probably wasn't even available.
Mark Pelligrino would have been better too.
and Jonny Lee Miller IS NOT in talks to play Rick. says: http://tv.ign.com/articles/108/1080499p1.html..... .where it says:....Jon Bernthal (The Pacific) will play the character Shane. However, we're also told that the rumors that Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting / Eli Stone) will play the lead role of Rick Grimes are not true, so look for an announcement on that front soon.
seems like it might not be him after all!
I'm glad (although I do like him, he's just not right for the role)
I that case I'm still rooting for Jamie Bamber (he'd prove all you doubting people wrong!)
With AMC behind this i am in no doubt this is going to be a winner. They have done Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Two of the best shows to hit TV. Looking forward to this.
