Will 'Saw VII 3D' Carry the Moniker 'Endgame' & Conclude the Franchise?

While Lionsgate, Twisted Pictures and all the various people being the Saw franchise have confirmed plans for an eight film, a new interview with screenwriter Patrick Melton (Saw IV-VII) reveals that due to the lackluster numbers Saw VII 3D could be the end of Jigsaw -- and retitled to carry the moniker "Endgame". Did Paranormal Activity literally kill Jigsaw? Only time will tell. Read on for the story and talk below.

"I mean, I think it's going to end with Saw VII," Melton tells Demon FM "I have a very strong feeling its going to end with Saw VII. That's something we're debating now. You saw in previous interviews or discussions where we thought Saw VIII would be the last one where we had the first trilogy and the second trilogy and then sort of a grand finale wrapped up in two films. But frankly because Saw VI hasn't performed as well as we anticipated, the idea is well why make two movies when we can make one really excellent movie that wraps up as best we can? And it's going to be in 3-D which sort of adds to the spectacle. So if you had to ask me, I don't own the franchise, nor do I run the studio, but I have a feeling, a strong feeling that it's going to be Saw VII which will be also known as Endgame. And nothing's official yet, but that's where we're hoping things will go."

Even part 3 couldn't end the series. Chances are they'll take a little break, or panic and "reboot" the franchise.

loved part 6, but before that, part 3 was the last one i loved...thats sad...maybe they should have had that director all along

i don't think they paint themselves into a corner by having the END GAME moniker. you know full well that they'll make more saw movies. the movies are made dirt cheap and STILL make back well over their budget (if i'm not mistaken). i'm not really a fan anymore of these movies (after 3 they were just dumb, NOT including Shawnee in that. i LOVE her). while 6 was somewhat better than 4&5, part 6 had the incredibly stupid "topical" theme about the big bad insurance people.

DAMN IT! Dudes, the saw films have done alot for horror, wethier or not they suck, or are awsome they opened the gates for many of todays horror films. It would suck really bad if they were to stop just because of poor box office trends. This is the franchise that got the younger generation into horror. Sure paronaormal was good, but come on IT'S FREAKIN' SAW!!! This studio would mess up badly if they were to stop the franchise.

Doesn't seem like it'll be much of a grand finale when just the other day the frustrated director was bitching about having to start rolling cameras without enough prep time.

It's going to be a rushed finale, they should grow a pair and wait until next year to release it and give it twice the effort because they will have way more time to come up with a great film. Didn't they learn from the tragedy which was H2, that rushing a film is a terrible idea. Goddammit

Man screw Paranormal Activity. It was overrated. A bunch of noises, lights going off and on, and doors opening and closing for and hour and fifteen minutes. Woooooo scary. I felt like I was being jerked around sitting there in the theater watching it. Nothing fucking happened until the last 20 minutes or so. It was just the hip thing for all the kiddies to rave about last year because once you really peeled back the hype and watched it it sucked. Saw gives much more value for your dollar. There's gore for the people who want it. Moral choices for the characters to make. Social commentary on our soceity, and what I enjoy the most, the story amongst all the characters in the movie, like Hoffman, Amanda, John, and Jill. I love watching the latest movie and seeing new things set into motion and other things happening that make me ask questions that I know won't be answered until the next installment. Paranormal sucked balls. The Entity with Barbara Hershey did it almost 30 years ago and did it tons better. I'll continue to support todays version of Friday the 13th until the very end.

I doubt this will be the final film in the series, as long as it continues to bring in profit there is no reason to for them to finish. I would personally like to see a "Trilogy within a trilogy" of nine films, each trio chronicaling different aspects of Jigsaw, concluding with the final 3 being based on "The Legacy of Jigsaw". Cool eh?

Wow, Mr. D. There is a chance that you called it. Maybe they should shoot that ending you suggested with Shawnee Smith dreaming all the events happening because she was doing drugs.

Saw 8: Endgame. Saw 9: The Beginning.

Even if VII is the last one FOR NOW, you know they'll come back in a few years and do another one....wait and see.

They should have ended it along time ago. If they do end it Im sure they will just start saw over again with a new person that was influenced by jigsaw and takes up his moniker to start it allover again, if nothing else they will wait like 18 months and a reboot.

Instead of Endgame, why not call it Saw VII: Game Over? That phrase is so central to the franchise whereas Endgame sounds sort of silly. Anyways, I would be sad if this was the final one, but as long as they go out with a bang (and in 3-D, no less), I'll be satisfied. Just PLEASE give it a proper ending with no cliffhangers or anything. And please have Shawnee Smith return for new flashbacks or new scenes. That's all I want!

It may well end the franchise... for now. But the idea that such a lucrative franchise with such a rabid fanbase will stay dead forever is absurd. My guess? SAW VII will both wrap up the plotlines established in the previous six AND set up a new series - perhaps with young Corbett in Jill's custody and being trained to resume John's work when she grows up. Can't wait for this one, regardless. Also, thanks to B-D for randomly selecting me to win a SAW VI DVD!!!!

Not a fan, but I still expect to wake up one morning and see an ad for "Saw XIII."

MetalMike666

It's possible it will continue, and 'jkrouskop' you may be on to something with Jeff/Lynn's daughter Corbett becoming part of it (Saw 8/9: Jigsaw Jills' Daughter of Death) ... but as of now she's only about 13 years old, so I think they'd have to wait a few years to make her the main character. Also, the one-armed Simone from Saw VI is still alive and didn't seem too happy in her last scene. So you hook up Jill and one-legged Dr. Gordon teaming as the guardians of one-armed Simone and Corbett. Dr. Gordon designs his prosthetic leg with built-in weapons (blades/drills/nail-gun) and the same for Simones prosthetic arm. They continue the legacy while training the young Corbett to take their places after they're eventually killed. (OK, now we're sounding like Machine Girl) But seriously ... this HAS TO END SOON! I mean how long did Friday The 13th go on ... number 10 and the series ended in outer space!

"Did Paranormal Activity literally kill Jigsaw?" Are you kidding me?? If anything Saw was a good franchise, but enough is enough, the story should have a Good wrap-up and ended some time ago, I´m a fan, but i really would rather have good part 7 with a strong ending, that another 13 geting weaker by the minute, but then again, that´s just me...

i really really reallly hope they dont put a gay moniker on the end of the title this franchie has lasted 7 films and everybodys hate flaming without having to resort to that!! as a super mega saw fan!! i will be sad to see the series end but also glad as their are less and less things that need to be answerd really aslong as doctor gordens fate is revealed i shall be happy ^^ personally i'de liek to see the film end were it started so the end cud be adam and lawrence waking up in the bathroom think it would give a cool pulp fiction feeling to it.

Please...please! Maybe the series will descend into oblivion, like I've hoped for years!
