Update: Worthington will be playing one other than Prince Vlad the Impaler -- aka Dracula! Some big casting news courtesy of our friends over at Latino Review who are reporting that new mega-superstar Sam Worthington will be toplinging Universal Pictures' Alex Proyas directed Dracula: Year Zero. The script chronicles the epic origin of Dracula, weaving vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. It depicts Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war, repositioning him more as a vengeful hero than the monster seen in Bram Stoker's classic novel. Worthington went from starring in Rogue to Terminator Salvation , Avatar and then the forthcoming Clash of the Titans redo.
Really curious to see how this is going to be made. Vlad the Impaler is a brutal story. My hope is that it will be rated R for "Strong bloody violence, gore, sexual content and scary images that are unsuitable for anyone under 17".
Is this Universal's reboot of Dracula? I would have thought it to be done based on Stoker's novel as the original 1931 film was. I just hope that if this is their reboot of Dracula, they end it pointing towards Stoker's novel and release a sequel that is from Stoker's novel.
It's as if Hollywood is deeply in love with Worthington or something.
He's in EVERYTHING and yes, he was good in "Terminator" but Jeeez!
But he really has a rather modern look about him and he's way too beefy and kind-featured to be Vlad.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
If they think Sam Worthington is gonna sell this flick simply off his brand new "movie star" status, they're sadly mistaken. The only two films anyone really knows him from are 'Terminator:Abortion (or is it Salvation ? Eh, same difference) which most people either didn't see or didn't like, and 'Avatar' which everyone saw, but certainly not because Sam worthington was in it. So the screenplay had better be amazing.
"It depicts Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war, repositioning him more as a vengeful hero than the monster seen in Bram Stoker's classic novel". They lost me at this. What the fuck is wrong with monsters being monsters?! Before you know it, there are going to be Charles Manson love stories where he is a sad man looking for love and acceptance.
